At 1k you never know, your in the right velocity window, but your es is kind of low. If its vertical out there give it a tenth or two or just work your seating depth.

Thats not how I read it.
Fact is small groups with low ES don't guarantee small groups and low vertical at distance.

Well sure. I am guessing the bullet stabilization rate has a component as well as the simple velocity. But that is just a guess. Essentially the bullet has a harmonic of its own.

Here’s my opinion on it holding together past 500 yards.

Depends on A few things.

Will the gun repeat that group with the same load? It has to consistently shoot that size group, if it has a chance to hold together at distance. Just one group isn’t enough to have confidence that it will shoot.

Also what do the groups on either side of that group look like. Groups with a little less and a little more powder.

I try to establish a window that the gun will shoot in! So basically how large of a powder/velocity window do you have before it starts throwing shots on the high and low end?

Since I don’t have a 1000 yard range to test at I rely on velocity based tuning. Once I know what the velocity window is I’m looking for. I’ll try to get to the range I’m competing at a day early. I’ll test what I have loaded and if I’m within my velocity window, I’m good to go! If not I go to the hotel and start loading.

So far this method has not failed to be competitive at any match I have traveled to. As long as I can stay in my window The gun will shoot and have a competitive tune.

No, that's not what I mean. It could shoot great there, but it's not a guarantee. I just gave an example of what can happen. It's mostly about Barrel harmonics and if it will carry to 500 or 1000. I have seen many good ES spreads and great 100 yard groups fall apart at distance. I believe the only way to know for sure is shoot at distance. Matt

I knew going in there was no guarantee. I was looking for an educated guess on how likely that load would hold up based on known loads for the 6BRA.
Bart -- I have not been above 30.8, 30.6 and lower don't shoot well, Until I can shoot at 500 I see no reason for further testing, that is why I asked the question in the beginning.

is there a closer distance ( 200,300,400, etc,) that the group shot at this closer range will correlate to the expected group size shot at longer ranges or do you strictly have to test at the longer range. thanks in advance.

If you can match the same velocity window You shot the group in it should do fine.
