Will need 45 pistol heads

Must be a slooooow A.M. Sheesh.

"Iffin I ain't heerd ovit, it ain't right."

Will add a thanks to the 45 Colt nomenclature variations tutorial. Not being a revolver guy nor any great affinity for lever guns, was not aware.
Grandfathered erroneous nomenclature? My fav is outboard motor. Dare I mention "power head" ?

I've been through several kegs of BE in my BE days then 291, 296 iirc when switching to IPSC.
I'll just have to see where my accuracy and ft lbs chart lines converge and go from there for carry duty.

sierra bullet etc and yada -
NOT ONE PROJECTILE NOR HEAD COMPANY

So, apple's to apple's, how many "Pipe or Tube" usages have you relegated to your "gotta correct" for WC?
In case WC is new to you or you've forgotten from college Freshman Comp, it is "Word Choice".
All in all . . . :/

You . . .
Limiting yourself to a "one size fits all" approach to the two cartridges does yourself and the cartridges in question a big disservice.
Again, not judging your motives, but I don't understand limiting yourself. Either way, best of luck with your decision.

You are certainly welcome to your personal vision for your .45 ACP/.45 Colt combination, but I think you are limiting the usefulness of such a combination.
.45 ACP cartridges perform best with relatively fast powders (Bullseye, 700X and a long list of others) with 185 - 230 grain bullets.
.45 Colt cartridges shine with slower powders from Unique through 2400 using bullets from 185 through 300 plus grains and loads can be concocted that can rival .44 Magnum velocities in an appropriately strong firearm. Best balance lies between 250 -300 grains and hit like a sledgehammer.

Curious myself if there is any value in the 45 colt loadings. The barrel being so short I cant see there being enough length to give any advantage when using slower powders. Is anything slower than unique going to burn near completely.

Not quite sure how I conveyed a limitation SSL.
So am not sure how to respond?
Yes, please flesh this out a bit.

Having so few rounds through a revolver and having a goodly amount of acp brass, a SQ Deal ready to load same, I plan on the majority of my practice to be w stout 45acp. I will of course find what I like best w the LC and practice enough to know poi, time to expect for recoil recovery, 2 shot drills etc. I'll never be a Miculek but will be competent, short bbl and all.
OBTW - for those that read Jerry's name, sounding out the "c" as hard, it is actually a very soft "c" - an "sh". ;-))
Onward and upward amigos.

Reloading is dangerous enough without confusing things by using incorrect terminology.
Careful there, rammac. You’re going to get flamed as a grammar nazi. Clear and accurate terms are apparently optional when gunpowder is involved.

AJC.....Thanks, I understand now. The physical limitations imposed by the bbl length. Good point. I'll have to see what the Labradar sez about that. Hmmm, maybe with a slow powder and heavy pill I could ascribe to a scorched earth policy?

My apologies. I somehow got the impression that you were looking for recommendations for a "one size fits all" bullet and powder combination for .45 ACP/.45 Colt cartridges. Sorry for the confusion.

It’s what you get when you pour your beer too fast...;):eek::eek::eek::D

You are incorrect............................its called excessive headspace.

in all likelihood, my college freshman English class was before you were born. projectile is an object in flight or that has been in flight. a chair, hammer or bullet.
some modern dictionaries have decided that improper use of a word makes it ok.
I do not.
as far as bbl vs tube or pipe, someone else's error, does not correct yours.
and yes a short bbl is going to be an issue even with the 45acp.
a typical 5" 230 860fps load will drop to a mere 790 in a 3.5" bbl.
so yes you best build them stout

If your "50" is your birth year, you are my baby brother's age. You be 91 otherwise to be a college fresh when I was birthed.

It will be an interesting experiment.

I thought I'd try to get around the Chief Special short bbl prob by loading 200 gr boolitz waaay back when. No chrono but wasn't impressed.
We will see. Fun in the making.
I had picked up some coated 200gr swc for the 1911 but haven't shot them yet. I need to stop by and look for something heavier to drag home.

An outboard 'power head' would be a two stroke engine block alone, minus all the rest. But I think we are getting way off topic, or so me thinks.

He said pill!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::)

My bottom line and last suggestion: Have fun with your new gun. I’m jealous! I’ve wanted a Colt 45 for quite some time but my wife says I have too many guns..:p

Another round you may be interested in is the 45 Schofield. Curious about your barrel diameter. 45acp is .451 and 45 colt is .456. The Schofield is .452. All the differences in 45 drive me mad. 45/70 is .458 and I reload all 3.
