Will bullet pulling ruin press?

I just pulled a bunch of last year's bullets . As they sat they got tighter and were a bugger to pull them with my rcbs collet puller . Now it seems my press ( Hornady iron ) seems a bit loose . Seems my last reloads were an extra thousandths off . Am I over thinking this or has anyone else had same experience as me ?

I've pulled a fair number of loaded rounds using a collet-type die puller. The only thing it occasionally affected was the bullet jacket if I tightened the collet too much. It didn't seem to affect the press at all. I typically only use pulled bullets as foulers/sighters, especially if the jacket is visibly marred, so even those still serve a useful purpose.

Next time just seat the bullets a couple thousandths deeper before pulling them. It will break the bond and make them much easier to pull.

Thanks for the tip guys . I still have some old 223 LC to pull . I'll try the push/pull technique .

They will be cold welded and if you try push first and no push you'll see it makes a massive difference on the pull required.

Or you could buy a cheap use press and use it for depriming/ pulling bullets. No residue on the press and no worries loosening the linkage of your primary press. I'm using mine to size cast bullets too.

Pulling bullets with the quick disconnectors is not recommended. Designed to work in the opposite direction.
