more interest in a caliber that is accurate enough to set RECORDS @ 600 yds+ and still function in the AR as it is.
Would also like to see the Military make the AR Piston Driven,
for that would keep them running longer in dust and mud.
You lost me, you started the post looking for a case that would shoot .500 BC bullets in the AR. I just showed you 2 that have 95 SMKs in them and will shoot 1/2 moa and now you're not interested in throwing lead?
but you are interested in a caliber that will set records at 600yds and still function as it is but, wish the military would do it in a piston system?
Take a piston operated rifle and shoot for groups then spin the gas block to cover the port and shoot for groups again. If you want records it's not going to happen with a piston gun unless the barrel is stiff enough to stop the reaction and that IMO would be too heavy for a combat rifle.
Edit- I am assuming now you are referring to the article on p5.
#2 in the photo in the link is a 6.8 necked down to 5.56, #3 is a 6.8 necked down to .243 both have been shortened so they can be used at mag length with the 75 Amax and the 95 SMK. Both of those rounds work well in SA or FA operation and PRI makes mags that allow them to be loaded to 2.3" 27 will fit in a mag the same size as the 5.56 mag.
A DMR type rifle is expected to make hits at 500 yds, both of those will do it much better than any current 5.56DMR in active use. Both of them shoot flatter than a 308 out to 500yds. They don't hit as hard as a 308 though.
