Wild cat help..ideas? $$

Hi guys..
I have a very remedial question for you experts..
Say one has a 6.5 creedmore rifle, and one has a .224 cal 7.5 twist barrel..
This gun will be varmint /woods / carry/ tool / bench toy.
22 br ?..
It will be used on game the size of chipmunks- to coyotes
Tight neck chamber?
No crazy fire forming..hoping for mid road barrel life or longer. 60-80 gr bullet with to match barrel twist something that matches a 6.5 creedmore bolt head..
I think you get my idea..

22-250 Ackley Improved, drop a standard 22-250 into the chamber, pull the trigger and your wildcat case is formed. There might be a couple of slightly better wildcat's out, but this one gives you something that "improves" the few shortcomings that the standard 22-250 has. It eliminates the large amount of body taper and reduces the "blow torch" effect because of the new shoulder angle, and it does it without breaking a sweat. The 7.5" twist should allow you to shoot 80-90 grain bullets also, and it fits your rifle's bolt face.

222 Remington Magnum. Will do anything you mentioned and with class.
Nothing wrong with that idea, except it takes a small bolt face and the OP has a standard bolt face.

As was already suggested by nmkid, I'd go 22 Creedmoor. It's, more or less, a 22-250AI, without the extra work of fireforming.

You simply can't go wrong with 22BR. I love mine Do not go tight neck. Go 254 minimum for no turning required on Lapua brass. 100 freebore works nicely for the big bullets. You can size brass in a single pass. And it's very very accurate. 7.5 twist will likely stabilize the 90s and maybe even the 95 too.

Man ..we I actually have 22-250 brass and dies..I like the improved..it just so sexy..like any of the br's..such a cool loaded little capsule of perfection..
I bought a Remington model seven ss hs precision stock..just love the looks of it..but I can't keep it just factory..who the hell wants to talk about that..and I have a great barrel blank sitting here..I have the gentleman to do the work....its all in motion..I'm looking through the Sierra and the burger reloading manuals getting Ideas..

One thing..I dont find the 22 250 case to be very efficient not like a 6br case..perhaps I'm wrong..
So if it will work I think I'll go with the 22br for lapua brass....
I would rather the 22 ppc but I dont think the barrel i have will work ..i just checked it an 8 twist
It's a large target barrel to fat for my intended purpose..is it alot to turn down a barrel to some sort of a light varmint contour to fit a model 7 .. I'm just trying to get a realistic idea of what it will cost
To make my barrel blank the size I need and fitting chamering..bla bla bla
And it's a 26" barrel
.if I go with a 22ppc or 22br how long would you guys suggest could I get away with 20"
Thank you

I just ordered a 6 BRAI reamer for a similar project. Mine will use a Bartlein 9 twist for 55-75 grain bullets. I’m thinking using a getting a Borden Super Short 6 action.

Oh I've looked at all the amazing actions..I just didnt want to invest that much into it..i have my benchrest babies..I need a good tool and i prefer a fun cartridge....and I would like to use what I already have if its possible..
I would dump money into guns, have fun, sell them, do it again..I just can't do that anymore as I'm preparing for retirement or going to part time work...all I need is one more rifle...honest...hahahaha

Ya, I tell my wife that every time I have a gun built, but, she learned long ago that's BS and now when I say that, she tells me, "you go ahead and tell yourself that if it makes you feel better". She used to say it combined with an eye roll, but I don't even get that anymore and now I just get a mmhmm.

A Rem 7 or 700 blueprinted by any number of good smiths and a top shelf custom barrel screwed in it will easily shoot up to your expectations. Custom actions are pretty and nice, I have a few myself, but the two best shooting guns I own are built on blueprinted Rem 700's, one with a Hart barrel and the other with a Proof Research.

If you want to re-profile a barrel, give Karl Kampfeld (http://www.kampfeldcustom.com/index.html) a call and talk to him about what he recommends. Karl does a lot of barrel fluting and he does excellent work, he is great to talk to about this kind of stuff and won't BS you. Barrels aren't all that expensive, the last Hart barrel I ordered was $330 delivered, so it may be better to just order a new barrel in the contour you want, than spending money to re-contouring the one you have.

I speak with the gunsmith..he doesn't recommend turning the barrel down but get a different barrel..
So I'm going with the 22 br.
I'm looking for a 9 twist #4 contor barrel blank..if any one has something comparable to the hart barrel I give posted and want to trade up let me know..I let that ride a few days then I will call Krieger I guess

You will not regret the 22BR, it's an amazing cartridge. I would strongly recommend an 8 twist. I think you may regret that 9 twist if you ever try any of the heavier bullets.

I plan to stick with 69gr. And /or 77 gr. ..for my new 22 br.. #4 contour 20" barrel as I will be carrying this gun..
What twist and what barrel .. I really want another pac-nor..my 223 rem improved barrel was sweeeeet!..
