As her coach and biggest fan, I had to post about this. My wife decided she wanted to take up competitive shooting about five years ago. My Dad retired from shooting at the time and gifted her his 284 Win. I had Bret aka BC'z paint the stock pink to add some "girl" to it.
Since ELR is popular in our area, we gravitated to that. She has shot Nightforce with me every year along with KRG and a few other light-gun ELR matches each season. She is a fantastic shooter with several sub 1" groups on paper at 1k and is better than most at doping wind. However, once on the clock the stress of time management, working through setup and mechanical issues, and finding targets have really frustrated her and limited her success. When she first started, she would often have multiple issues on a stage and at times never found a single target (unpainted steel in sage through mirage at 1k to 2k). She stuck with it though and struggled through the frustrations, slowly improving with each match.
Last weekend we shot the "Redemption 2025" Match at DMR in Preston Idaho. Finally, it all came together and she was on fire! The highlight for me was watching her clean a stage with sub moa targets (12" circle and 12x20 IPSC) at 1,362 yards cross canyon in the mountain winds. When the shooting was over, she had definitely shot her personal best. She beat me by 3 pts, ended up in 9th place on the combined overall field and won Top Lady shooter.
I am truly blessed to have her shooting with me and even more so now that she can whoop me. Thanks for letting me brag on her a little!!
