Wierd primer

Whats up with the primer second from left and the middle one? Almost looks like over-pressure to me.
124gr Berrys plated hollow point
6.2gr Unique powder
Federal Match small pistol primer

Shot thru my Canik TP9sfx
10 yards
20 rounds
2"group w/out a rest or support.

Any input from you guys would be great.

High pressure from bullet set back on chambering. . Or difference in brass. Then Primer Wipe.

But more likely, to much powder.20200119_180602.jpg
Most powder measures will drop a charge +/- 2/10 gr.

You sure that 2nd Left’s yours?

First left’s Aguila, then 2nd’s WTN. All the rest are Blazer.

Only pistols I’ve seen w/rectangular FP hole’re early Glocks. I have a Gen I 22C that spits cases looking like that.
That one with the rectangular one was one i tried to shoot thru my glock 19. The rest came from my canik. I fired a total of 40 rounds today thru each gun. These were the only ones that i noticed any potetial problems with.

That is not even close to over pressure in a Glock.... Its gen 3 or 4 .... Gen 5 has the tear drop firing pin... Get a crono , then run some factory across it for a base reading... The Canik I have no idea about but the Glock 19 i have put over ten thousand rounds through mine a heck of a lot hotter than that... And mine are weak loads... The paper doesn't know the difference.... But be smart and start low and work up but without a crono where's up.... I shoot the same bullet in 9mm but with win231 , but each powder is different...DON'T believe me or any one else on the internet , that's how you can get hurt.... Start low and work up is the best advice ever....

The problem with Berry's bullets are there's no data , but there cheap... They say load them as lead or load them as low to mid FMJ data.... I setup my Dillon wrong and loaded 5 as max lead data and they were smoking hot 124gr at 1199fps.. I can't even think I would load them mid range FMJ data.... Like rifle , every chamber and every barrel is different , so there's no right answer... Be careful and ditch the soft federal primers , I use CCI , but to each their own....

The one in the middle doesn't look to have a dent in the primer.
If that's the case, then you're crimping too much and ruining the headspace and getting a dud.

Maybe I'm seeing things. In that case, just ignore my post.

Seen online where a short chamber in a 45 acp caused the primer to flow back from high pressure. . Then the high primer is wiped by the slide, making the primer face flat.

It was said a gun smith corrected the chamber and the problem went away.

Sure enough the chamber was out of spec. He reamed the barrel chamber and all is well.

Reduce the powder charge first. Test.

The chrono will only give you velocity, unless it's a special equipped Ohler it tells you nothing about pressure. Some powders like Unique will max out pressure before the maximum available velocity is achieved, "the law of diminishing returns". Sticking with the Alliant brands something like Power Pistol, BE86 or Blue Dot might give the highest achievable velocity without going over pressure.

Correct , just like I use win 231 and it's definitely not the best powder for full power loads... You must be able to tell what pressure signs are but not knowing what any basics are is hard to start from.... I haven't found a loading manual yet that the published speeds were the speeds I got... Plus I can't see trying to load full power loads for target practice.... I don't hunt with a 9mm or carry reloads for self defense... So pretty much I load for paper punching only with pistol rounds... I would definitely say there hot if your loading above book for a normal bullet and using Berry's , they in my opinion need to be loaded as lead... I just wouldn't try and load them to hot fmj data myself , I would think the pressure would be sky high....

over charge based on mixed brass where somecases are so small the safe charge in some is un safe in others.
well if you sort the brass, and then load safe charges for that brass, you will not have an overcharge based on guessing what the right charge is on mixed brass.
for the record it may be an over charge
BUT
in nickle fc at 1.169 it is only 33k...not an over charge( my own testing with sorted brass)

I doubt that will correct an over charge of powder.

I don't know anyone who loads a 124 gr at 1.169" COAL. Most of the time a 124 gr will be loaded to around 1.100" and 1.250". Thus reducing the powders space and increasing the pressure. A 124 gr RN might be OK loaded at 1.169". But not a FP/HP...

The Berry's 124 Hybrid HP I have measure 0.538".. If you load them to 1.169", that will leave only 0.123" inside the case.

Quickload rough guestimate of pressures for this combination.

124 gr bullet (0.538" long)
6.3 UNIQUE

1.169" COAL = 37,139 psi

1.125" coal = 44,563 psi

+P MAX = 38,500 psi

but you are making assumptions, with no actual knowledge
my numbers are based on ACTUAL TEST.

It would seem that you are loading that round to much for your chamber and should back off or you will damage either the firearm and/or yourself.

What purpose are you loading this ammo for? Unique is not a powder I would necessarily choose for 9mm.
