Wideners Heavy .224 bullets

http://www.wideners.com/itemview.cfm?dir=278|281|727

Has anyone tried these 69 HPBT & 75 gn.HPBT bullets in fast [1-8 or 1-9] twist rifles ??

Nope. With my 1-in-12" twister, 60 grain Nosler Partition hunting bullets work hard to please. Someday, I may buy a Savage 1-in-9" twist, but will probably stay with 60 grain fare. Something about a 60 grain bullet seems to press the envelope of .224 caliber prowess. I also think 55 grain bullets are most practical in .22 caliber centerfires. Cliffy

I have shot a lot of the 75 gr bullets. I shoot them from 223's. They are not too bad. Granted they are not too good either. I sort them by bearing length. I used to sort them by weight but was not fully satisfied. Any way a person on this board said sort them by bearing length. That solved the problem I was having. I still get the odd flyer but I am shooting them at 500 or 600yds at a plate of steel. So there is some slop in how the paint chips off. When I am on I can keep them under 4 inches at 600. Granted that is on a good day. Most days I have an ovel that is going side to side. Darn that wind.

1-in-12" barrels seem to thrive accuracywise on 55 grain premium bullets: i.e. 55 grain Speer T-N-T and 55 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip. Cliffy

I've had excellent results with Hornady 75 gr. BTHP in both 1-9" Savages and 1-7" Krieger barrels, not sure which bullets you were referring to at Wideners as the link was just to the general bullet page.

I have made it a personal project to develop this round (Widener 75gr.) I have tried IMR4064, H335, RE15, BLC-2, 748, and the best out of the lot so far is Varget: 1:8 Twist.
