Why Mauser cartridge types out of stock?

Sign up for in stock notices, they come around once or twice a year. I have been playing with the 7x57 for three years, the 8mm mauser for about 5 years. It's always been like this for most brass mfgs. They just do runs enough for the main suppliers to buy it all up and then they move to other cartridges.

It's all about marketing.....If there wasn't a batch of NEW cartridges brought out every/every other year how many shooters would complain about the industry getting stagnant? There are so many old cartridges that perform so well on game that I think most of us just believe in the hype and not in the practical.
Look at all the different cartridges made off the H&H, NEWTON, SCHULER, and JEFFREY cases. Absolutely nothing wrong with any of them. Maybe an upgrade in metallurgy of the brass for modern pressures but that's it.
I agree but I would never complain about not having new cartridges - I would give that up if I could readily get the powder, primer, and bullets I want but that's just me.

I know I am in the minority with this, but I truly believe if you master anyone of the so called legacy big game cartridge like the 30 06, 270, 308, etc. the vast majority of North American hunters would be well served.

We are just slightly recovering from a couple of years when ammunition manufacturers could sell all they could produce. When that is happening, they don't stop the machines to set up on small quantity runs of non popular calibers. Example, unless you found a dealer with old stock, .38 S&W, .32 S&W, .32-20 and a host of other slow moving other calibers (including rifle) just weren't to be had. All these slow moving calibers are put off until demand slows down for the popular ones. Just too much set up time involved for the length of run. Also why these are priced higher than calibers with similar amounts of raw material required.

If there were no progress and no advertising, we would all still be driving VW Beetles, Simca's and Pinto's.

I say this as a dedicated 222, 22PPC, 5.6x50/6x50, 22 K-Hornet, 17FB, 22-250 and 220 Swift guy, so don't lump up on me too hard! I also have 10K of 40SW brass, an 1884 Trapdoor and a revolver...

The cartridge “game” is as it has always been. The first thing a manufacture has to convince the buying public of is what Is now being used is now inadequate for the task at hand.

i would venture a guess that something as lowly as a 33/30 Winchester or as antiquated as a 30/06 is perfectly adequate for 95% of the hunting public‘s purposes.

Shooters who are dedicated to the shooting Disciplines that require the highest level of precision and accuracy are an entirely different Market. Which leads one to scratching their heads in wonderment as to why Lapua, who arguably caters to this crowd, still refuses to make offerings in the two most popular chambers in Short Range Benchrest, that bring, the 6PPC and the 30BR.
