Why is it that........

Some gunsmithes refuse to true the actions, or rebarrel a Ruger m-77 mark II? I have always been a Remington fan, but was just curious about this issue.

Tony.

Ruger actions have got to be some of the hardest metal out there..lol i tried drilling a hole into one and gave up after breaking 6 different types of bits.

The last Ruger I did had barrel tennon threads mis-aligned with the centerline of the bolt raceway. I still will barrel them, just wont waste time "truing" them.
Ruger M77 with Krieger 14 twist heavy pattern barrel, chambered in 22-250.
The rifles owner reports good accuracy.

I've trued several remmy's. Its much easier with there round shape for me to indicate in. I think maybe that why most smith's prefer to stick with remington actions.

Welll....
I prefer to stick with actions that are basically true to begin with. The last Ruger I did had the bolt center and barrel tennon center on two different axis'.
Still shot ok, but it makes for much more work and headache.
