Why do they separate men and women in shooting competitions ?

I thought the finals were the tell, tell. That left the best against the best.
I don't know what tell,tell means.
The finals are 8 shooters eliminating 1 at a time starting at 8 shots so only the top 2 even shoot the full number of shots.
Ok for comparing the two winners as you did, difficult for comparing past second place as I wanted to do.

Also I think the low number of shots in the finals does leave more room for plain luck to be a factor.

looking at just the finals Li Du(the woman Ginny beat) would have taken silver leaving the men with only a bronze :)

I for one would rather teach a woman to shoot, than a man. Women haven't got that Macho thing going on in there heads. They do what you tell them, Just as far as the shooting goes that is.
They pay attention and don't worry about winning all the time. Men get something in there heads, I know what I'm doing and then that's it. They won't listen.

Same page Joe, When I had females in my shop classes, they were more attentive and open to learning and less fearful of making mistakes than the guys. Some were my best students.

Thanks guys , so it turns out it's not as segregated as I thought . If I understand a few of you . There are many competitions that the men and women compete side by side for the same prize , is that accurate ???

It also seems they keep separate stats as well as the overall winners ???

I'll weigh in as a woman and a person new to the sport.

I find it annoying and offensive.

If it's being used as a recruiting tool it seems the sport would be better served making a beginner or novice division for folks who have competed less than x number of times or have never had a top 10 finish or won money or whatever makes the most sense for that particular type of match.

If there are women out there who are so intimidated by shooting along side men do we really want them out there shooting at all? Seems like society really caters to and dumbs things down for the weak and meek.

Any given day I might shoot as well as my boyfriend and I have a lot less experience. We've had a great time learning the sport and growing together. I shoot the open division at the NALRSA matches. There is no special division for women at the local 500 yrd matches and I came in 5th at the last match and 3rd at the one before that.

I speak from the heart when I say if a woman feels like she needs a special division maybe she should stay at home in the kitchen were she belongs. There is nothing about my uterus that gives me a disadvantage when I shoot.

Donna Lee Price is in the NBRSA Hall of Fame. She had a very unconventional shooting style, no one has been able to copy. She constantly outshot her husband Glen, and she rarely ever practiced. Donna Lee Price was a force to be reckoned with shooting a benchrest rifle.

I would much rather teach a woman to shoot (rifle or pistol) than a man. A female new shooter will listen to you while most men and boys tend to let their ego's get in the way. If gal beats me after listening and showing that she understands instruction, more power to her. I have introduced many ladies to 45LC and 45-70BP rifles with no problems showing proper grip and stance with the pistol and proper hold with rifle off sticks or from bags on the bench. The 45LC was loaded with WW231 & 250gr lead bullets and the 45-70 with cast Lyman Postell bullets weighing 530gr and 70gr Swiss 1 1/2 BP. By demonstrating recoil management to the ladies even the 110lb students were able to shoot and with a little coaching hit targets at 25yds (pistol) & 100yds (rifle). I feel that women unlike male students leave their ego's at the door so to speak and listen, pay attention, and follow instruction better. Watch Olympic competition and you will see both men and women at the highest level of proficiency in their shooting sport. Best of LUCK to our Olympic shooters and Coaches in KOREA.

Yes it is for NRA High Power which includes F-Class, don't get Classification or National Record Categories confused with the actual Match/Tournament.

Look at the list of Wimbledon Cup winners which include LCPL Hathcock, thru the 90's Nancy H. Tompkins and Michelle M. Gallagher show up on the list.

My wife shoots Fopen...not because she wants to beat the piss out of men,,but because she enjoys going with me and making me nervous as hell about how well I loaded her ammo.

I don’t shoot competition so I can’t add to the answers for the OP. I can add that I have seven children, 3 girls and 4 boys. I’ve always invited my girls to participate in hunting and shooting and every one of them love it. They have thrived in the outdoors. In many ways they are better hunters than my boys are, they are more patient, they have made some incredible shots, they can hike on par with most men, they are a lot of fun in camp, they are great outdoorsman.

My wife grew up in a big family and her Father never invited the girls to go hunting and fishing. After me and my wife got marrried and he saw how much my wife loved hunting and fishing he regretted never taking her along. He has told me several time “I never knew”. Kinda of a shame because he lost out on a lot of good times with someone who truly loves many of the things “men” enjoy. I’ve encouraged several of my friends to take their daughters, maybe not all girls will enjoy it but I believe most will.

I would think competition shooting to be along the same lines. If you have a daughter or wife who wants to go by all means introduce them to the sport. It’s one more person who may enjoy what so many of us are so fond of, shooting in one form or another. After watching my girls I would think they could enter the same class as the men and hold their own just fine.
