Why did Hornady make the 6.5 Creedmoor?

I’m sold on them. I am actually now thankful to Norma for canceling RSAUM brass. Don’t get me wrong, I still will never buy their brass if there is an alternative, for doing it. I was so invested in the Saum that their move prevented me from picking any follow on, including the 300 WSM, that relied to any degree on their production, and I sure wasn’t going to repay their dropping my short mag, with me buying over time many thousands of their survivor, to be in the same place.
But, Norma’s move, along with the existence of Hornady’s 250 A-Tip (and the rumored 245 Berger) spurred me away from short mags altogether, and 7mm’s in LR, and for that I’m glad.
I did have to choose between the belted WM and Hornady’s PRC, when intending to shoot the 250 A-Tip, also made by Hornady.
Initially, I was concerned that the PRC may not be as permanent as the 300 WM, which was a non-negotiable when replacing the truly defunct, Lapua-eschewed saum, but then Mark at 4AW made it pretty clear that the WM is actually less peaky than the PRC with ultra heavies, attaining higher velocity from a long column, and that sealed it.
Belted is definitely not dead to me, 800 Peterson L, 300 Lapua, 300 ADG, and 100 ABM, to get started with eight 8 twist 5R’s in my first year with it.
It’s pretty clear the Hornady PRC line is here to stay, but I’m WM at this point. In fact, Hornady’s PRC line, which all the brass makers jumped on, has pulled in leading Open shooters. Yes, sshhh, that 6.5 PRC is Hornady’s cartridge, necked to a 7 or not.
I don’t know how much the belt has to do with it, but this is the least “growy”, best pocketed, and most interchangeable gun to gun brass I have used in Fclass. It just doesn’t need to be resized, any of it, amazingly. I don’t know what the pressure of ~73 plus grains of H-1000 is with a 250 in an 8 twist, but there are no pressure signs on the head, and more than 1,900 FPS at the target is common.
If the 300 WM didn’t already exist, and was introduced today, it would still be the best choice for a current class of heavies that it wasn’t made for. Bigger, like the 30-378, is possibly too hot for string fire.
The thinking that all cartridges need to be short and fat, after many generations of long columns working very well, I think should be rethought. Fast combustion is hard on brass. I’m at a loss as to why it was ever important to burn powder in 24 inches and carry around only short actions, and short rounds.

The 260 Remington was a complete success. You just need to know what it was intended to do.
Remington was sponsoring David Tubb to shoot NRA High Power Rifle Silhouette. So far so good. He also wanted to shoot the Hunting Rifle version but the rules required it be shot with a rifle in a factory cartridge. At the insistance of David Tubb, Remington produced the 260 Rem and made enough rifles to qualify it as a factory offering.

It's the attitude some people have when they hand over the cash for a new 6.5cm. they are instantly pro/comp shooters like you guys (I am however not even close). That being said, I wonder how much it has helped the shooting industry as a whole. I know several people who took to target shooting instead of just hunting with the old 270 or '06. I do not have one though I would like a 6mm of sorts.
Drastically, when being around anyone talking hunting or shooting the subject comes up.
Also so we can have theThe real reason they made it was so people on internet forums would have something to argue about...

For some reason folks don't bitch n moan about whats a better cartridge or ask WHY was this cartridge conceived.

Old fan of 6.5 Built a 260 Improved in 2008 won a lot of 600 and 1000 yard Matches.
Built a .260 Hunting Rifle what Yot Killing Machine.
Should get 6.5 Creed to keep up the game ?

I remember shooting my cousins .260 years ago and thought this is the stuff.
Agree,.. Between, the .243 Win and .270 Win., the 6.5 Creed HAS,.. it's "Place" and with, much BETTER,.. B C's !
Lower Recoil than the .270, & greater BC's, Kills Deer better than, a .243 Win with, the "Right" Bullets.
For Elk / Moose, I will, "Step Up" to a .270 WSM or 7 MM Mag and,.. SKIP, the .308 entirely ( Sorry, .308 Fans ).

Why?
I'm shooting a 358 Norm Magnum and it produces great groups and 2 dead elk with 1 shot each, 1 at a bit over 400 andv1 at a bit over 600 yards. Groups 1 1/8" average at 300 yards. More distance with more energy than a 338 Winchester Magnum.
I don't like reloading them.

Here is a first world problem.
While I own three different belted mag guns, the thing I don't like about them is that when you load the magazine (all of mine use magazines) the round slides back and then hangs up on the belt of the round below it so that it is hard to seat against the back of the mag.

My worst first world, white person problem with belted magnums...
I own four 300 win mags and have to name each barrel so I don't mix the brass up.
Yes, horrible.
I have that problem with 06's.
