Who’s going to Lodi, WI for Nationals?

Well, as promised, I thought I would update you all on the trials and tribulations that my girlfriend (Marisa Tundo) and I went through just to shoot the mid range nationals this year. This is an incredibly embarrassing story that I would not ordinarily share on this site; but I’m so proud of my girlfriend’s dogged determination and commitment to shooting in this big event, that I feel the need to share it.
I’ll walk you through the adventure in chronological fashion:
Friday, 530 (EST) - awake after each sleeping just about 5 hours having worked the second shift.
7am (EST) - leave home in Macomb, Michigan
- drive 475 miles to Middleton, WI where we booked a nice studio skylight room at a nice family home. Easy drive with 3-4 stops because we were in no rush to get there (8.75 hour drive, but we pick up an hour as we cross over to CST).
- 245pm (CST) briefly check in and meet the couple renting us the studio room at their house
- 330pm (CST) head to Whole Foods about 12 miles away to pick up some food and drinks
- 5pm (CST) return to the studio and put food in the fridge
- 530pm (CST)take about a 1 hour nap because we were both dead tired from working the previous night shift
- 630pm (CST) wake up and decide I should really unpack the expensive items from the car (Grand Cherokee) so nothing ends up getting stolen or ammo doesn’t bake in the car. I’m unloading the truck and standing there in complete disbelief as my girlfriend walks up and asks me what’s wrong. I tell her my ammo is nowhere to be found in the car. We search high and low and determine that my ammo was in the basket at the bottom of the basement steps. My son and I were playing Tetris to get everything in the small ass Grand Cherokee and my girlfriend was bringing the equipment upstairs. Somehow she got side tracked, most likely because I asked her to pack some more ice and drinks in the cooler for the ride.
715pm CST) - 12 hours and 15 minutes until registration closes at Winnequah Gun Club for Mid Range Nationals. After hating on myself for about 10 minutes I determine that it is “mathematically possible” to go get my ammo and be back before registration closes, and we leave for home.
730pm (CST) shortly after leaving we realize that all of the drinks, ice and food we bought for the competition are in the fridge at the studio apartment, along with the cooler.
730pm (CST) 450 miles to reach home, and then 485 miles back to Winnequah Gun Club. 935 miles to go in exactly 12 hours to go. I’m crunching numbers on the calculator and I see we have to average 77.91mph to make it back before registration ends. My girlfriend is NOT comfortable driving much over 70mph, so come to the conclusion that I’m going to need to average 85+mph whenever I’m driving.
710am (CST) - we pull back into Winnequah Gun Club. 11:40 hours, 935 miles with an average speed of 80.4mph. Sounds easy I suppose but just try to average 70+ mph for any trip more than 6 hours and let me know if you succeed. LOL.
8am (CST) - National Anthem plays and shooting commences (neither of us have slept in the last 28 hours, and we have driven 1478 miles in just over 24.5 hours). We have ZERO drinks, water, and limited snack food because they are all back at the Studio.
4pm (CST) - shooting commences for Day 1 of Nationals (we have now both been awake for 36 hours). Thank GOD for the green water jugs the club had on the back of the pickup
445pm (CST) - arrive back to Middleton studio apartment room. Dead tired we collapse into the bed and NEVER eat dinner.
To answer some questions that I’m sure will follow, yes we have and use a checklist to load the car. Problem is I packed the ammo in the carry basket and then checked it off the list assuming she brought it up. Also, YES, I did pee into a large Gatorade bottle when she was driving, and we pulled over on the side of the highway so she could go when I was driving, and one time she went in to the gas station while I was stuffing the gas tank.
Embarrassing? Hell yes it was.
However, this is an amazing story of the ridiculous things people will do for the people and activities they love. My girlfriend wanted me to shoot her rifle saying nationals was more important to me, to which I said I would never deprive her of the opportunity to compete in the Nationals after she put in the hard work to be ready for it. I told her that I just wouldn’t shoot and I’d go and watch her shoot, to which she said she wasn’t shooting unless I could. That 10 minute back and forth discussion led to getting out the calculator to see if it was even mathematically possible to go home and return with my ammo.
For the record, Marisa averaged just under 69mph for her driving and I averaged just over 88mph.
Hope you enjoyed reading this debacle as much as we enjoyed finally making it back to Lodi to shoot in time Saturday morning.

Love the dedication..been there done that..I on the other hand said F..it I’m a scorer and a target puller today.

Last match was cancelled today..only got to shoot two..…lots of problem and long delay with shot markers.

Mark, Kevin and club have done a great job..equipment failure is not their fault..we got to remember all the hard work and time they’ve put into running this match, for us..

Are they using Shotmarkers or SMTs at Lodi? Last I remember, they had SMTs.

No score sheets only watch bullet trace in case of crossfires. Scores transferred by Range Officer. Shotmarker tabulates scoring. Can view scorecard of all competitors and rankings.

Does anyone have the completed mid range nationals results after all shooting was complete? F class John’s picture above doesn’t have the completed list. Thanks if you can post the completed mid range list. I looked on the club website and it’s not shown there either.

Results are on the clubs facehole page. Things went very well until this afternoon. I heard the problem is not with the Shotmarkers, but with the wifi system. They are working their asses off to put on a great match.

Sounds about right Walt. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t know a Facebook page if it hit me in the face. Lol. I don’t use any social media with the exception of this forum. I’ll ask my girlfriend to get the results for us.

I’ll be there for all of the fun and frustration. Keith R
Keith (aka RingoStar) great meeting you and spending time with you at Nationals. I saw the final scores and you pinched me by a single point. This past weekend’s conditions were certainly no place to be shooting a 6 Dasher like Marisa and I were. I sure wish I had brought my .284. Great times and great people. I’m so glad we attended, even if we did have to make the drive twice just to fire the first round Saturday morning. lol

Seems we were told the same thing last time I shot Nationals at Lodi In 2017. Gremlins in the circuitry
