Who`s scale???

You realize you can throw powder just under and trickle up say with the omega. Save's a lot of money. Your scale need's may vary but a Sartorius is just fine and there are a lot of good electronic scale's out there. Hopefully someone will chime in and make recomendation's. Me I use a hornady auto powder measure which is not as good as the rcbs. It works for me and I don't need a 700.00 scale to shoot short range. If you are into serious long range shooting then investing in a scale that will measure down to 1 one hundredth of a grain may indeed be necessary to get top performance from your rifle. It does not help to tell a new shooter to use the search function rather than helping him.
Spot on and well put my friend.

A&D FX-120i and an Omega trickler here as well. I have mine set on medium response and trickle up. I find it very fast, accurate, and the as others have said, stable. My gem pro used to float and be needed to be reset often; my charge master broke and RCBS wanted $250 to fix it so I just upgraded to the A&D.

I use the FX - 120i and a omega trickler . I just use a Lee powder spoon to get the bulk of my powder , then trickle up .

$25 Lee Perfect Powder Throw, Omega trickler with FX 120i scale. Works great. I used to use a Chargemaster. I can outrun the Chargemaster with this set up.

I use a chargemaster or Harrell's to throw my initial charge then trickle up with a Omega onto my GD 503,..if your shooting long range competition this is the bomb if your working up normal range hunting loads or short range bench rest then this is way over kill. For my plinking loads I use the charge master's, I run two at a time. and for short range precision I use my harrells. So it is all about what your going to be doing, and how much your willing to spend, for plinking and point blank to 300 yards hunting any scale out there will do you fine, if money is no object whatsoever then buy the Prometheus Gen2.......Good luck ;)

My RCBS ChargeMaster drops on the money in about 15 seconds. That's about right for my bullet seating rhythm!
I own two chargemasters and neither one of them drops on the money, there close but not perfect, at least mine aren't .

It may display it on the LCD, but if you check them on a high end scale, I can guarantee there is variation to make a difference at long range.

I run 2 Chargemasters 1500 to throw charges low.
Trickle up to final load with an Omega Trickler.

As for scale i use a Sartorius Practum 124-1s, accurate to 0.0001 g.
It's a step up from the A&D FX 120i for sure, but the A&D will work for most uses, it is one of the cheapest magnetic force restoration balances available though so you get a lot for the money.

Other to look up would be the A&D HR150AZ or an Ohaus PA series.

Have no idea where the cheapest prices in the US is.

what chuck said,,,
all depends on your version of precision and what you shoot.

Ok so what scale would you guys recommend for reloading hunting ammo. Loading stick and ball powder from an old Redding measure. I have a ten dollar cheap digital and think the accuracy of it isn't what it could be.

I would like to stay under $100 if possible.

FOR UNDER 100 US DOLLARS...

one should purchase

a

LEE SMALL BEAM SCALE...ALL THE ACCURACY NEEDED FOR HUNTING AND VERY LOW COST

For under $100 one should go on ebay and buy something like this,

,clean it up, and understand that it is under warranty, and if you want to tune it up, it will work better than any new scale that is within your budget. There are several listed

I use a Ohaus 505 tuned by Scott Parker (very nice scale) and a Targetmaster trickler. This combo works great. I would not trust any cheap electronic scale for trickling (cheaper then $500 or more)

For those who lack experience with a tuned balance scale, it should probably be pointed out that they are a whole different animal than out of the box scales. A while back, I picked up a used RCBS 5-0-5 and did a little tuning. After setting it up so that a webcam was giving me an enlarged image of the balance scale and beam pointer mark om computer's screen, I was able to see progressive beam deflection as I added each individual piece of Varget powder to a total of 4, whereupon I reset the scale to .1 grain and it balanced. This is a loooog way from the way that they come. I should hasten to add that I am not saying that it as accurate as expensive scales, but its precision exceeds my needs, and I would have to invest in a magnetic force restoration scale to get an electronic scale that was as convenient to trickle charges with. With it, I am confident that I can easily see charge differences of .05 grain. It is the second one that I have tuned for myself. If you want one done, Scott Parker is the man.

I use my point and shoot camera with a flip-open screen to monitor the beam pointer.
