IMR 4895 ?

Link

Silver $$ Contributor
Hi I was reloading tonight and ran out of 1 can of IMR 4895.

When I started using another can my thrower was drooping .8 more of a grain. [Using a bench thrower and a trickeler.]

It is old powder, the # on the can are both the same. T-B 65 / 7674. Is this normal?

Thanks Link

If it is an RCBS unflow powder measure, after every IMR4895 throw, you are supposed to give a little prayer,'Thanks again, Lord, should I top off the hopper?'

The thing is I loaded a half pound of powder.

Then when I went to a new pound of powder [same lot] it threw .8 gr. heavier at the same setting.

Is this normal?

Normal if the amount of power in the hopper is full, compared to almost empty. I sit a funnel in the top of the powder hopper to keep the same level of powder in the hopper. Always drop 10 or more powder charges to settle the powder in the hopper.

Use large washers on top of the powder in your hopper to maintain constant pressure on your powder flow. Stainless steel ones will have no chemical effect on the powder but will provide the necessary pressure to insure your throws will remain the same regardless of the decreasing weight due to the diminishing amount of powder as you use it up.

Maybe I didn't ask the question right.

I used a full 1 lb can of 4895 keeping the hopper 1/2 full.

When I changed cans [same lot] it constantly threw .8 gr heavier.

So I had to readjust the throw meter. [screw thingy]

Normal?

thanks
