Who`s scale???

Phil

Gold $$ Contributor
Sartorious?????

Who`s scale are you using and where is the best place to buy one?????

What powder trickeler are you using???

Thanks,

Phil.

You realize you can throw powder just under and trickle up say with the omega. Save's a lot of money. Your scale need's may vary but a Sartorius is just fine and there are a lot of good electronic scale's out there. Hopefully someone will chime in and make recomendation's. Me I use a hornady auto powder measure which is not as good as the rcbs. It works for me and I don't need a 700.00 scale to shoot short range. If you are into serious long range shooting then investing in a scale that will measure down to 1 one hundredth of a grain may indeed be necessary to get top performance from your rifle. It does not help to tell a new shooter to use the search function rather than helping him.

The threads pinned at the top are outdated and some if not all of the scales mentioned have been discontinued.

I use a A&D FX120i scale and a Omega trickler. Not fast but very accurate. The best price for a FX120 I could find was at Cambridge. You'll save close to $100 buying from them as compared to any other seller I could find.

Please tell us what you are loading for. The requirements for different kinds of shooting are different. When I weigh charges, I use a tuned balance scale (older RCBS 10-10, that I can read to .05 grain (with magnification), and I use a RCBS trickler that has had its bottom filled with lead. I understand that the latest RCBS scales are made in Mexico and are not good candidates for tuning, for that reason I suggest that you look for a clean used one on Ebay. Actually the less expensive models are just as accurate, as long as they have the agate knife edge bearings. If you are setting up to win at 1,000 yard benchrest, you may want to look into electronic scales, and should take note that none of the scales that are offered by reloading equipment companies come up to the standards of many who load for that application. What those shooters look for is a scale that will give reliable results to .02 gr or better.

it is about $520 or so delivered.....so close to 200 savings...
i just got mine...
and i suggested a new pinned thread but it fell on def ears.

sorry but is simpler to go read previous threads than have everyone retype every time someone asks...there is a reason for the search function

1000 yard benchrest shooting....

I understand that the Sartorious GD305 is no longer being built, so i was just wondering what others are using in it`s place, and if you were happy with the results you were getting....

Yes, i have searched, but am still wanting opinions of others.......

I use the same setup as you do......I paid $400.00 for the scale at Cambridge but that was a while back when they were cheaper......Works great.

Hands down, A&D FX-120i and an Omega trickler. Fast, accurate and extremely consistent. My previous scale was a tuned Ohaus and a GemPro 250. Prior to that, I had a RCBS Chargemaster and a RCBS 750. The FX surpasses all immensely.

In regards to not being fast, there are three register modes you can set on the FX. Slow, Medium and Fast. I keep mine on Fast and it registers very fast. My powder charging time is pretty much cut in half compared to a GemPro 250 and Omega setup.

You are right of course. I should have qualified my statement a little better. It's slow compared to a powder drop type measure but way faster than a chargemaster. Using a old rcbs uniflow measure I had laying around set to about 1 grain light and finishing on the FX I can have 2 cases charged and working on a 3rd by the time the chargemaster is done. And it's been modded. That's throwing 48.6 gr.
What slows me down is that it still fascinates me that as soon as I take my finger off the trickler button the scale stops too. I keep setting there waiting for it to stabilize. ;D

What cartridge are you shooting 300wsm or 6 dasher. for me it would depend on cartridge size.

I know i am going to get heat for saying this but i have the A&D FX120i and it is a good scale not great.

The reason i say that is i am at the max sensitive of the scale when weighing Varget, a kernel of Varget is .02 the scale resolution is .02 so by that very stmt the best i can do with weight consistence is 2 kernels (.04) i can be under or over by one kernel.

Now back to my question if you are shooting the 300wsm with larger kernel powder larger then Varget the disparity would be less/ if you are shooting a dasher with smaller kernels or (Varget) then you will ultimately max out your ES and SD, and in order to shoot supper small groups you need really tight ES/SD numbers
If I were to do it again I would get the A&D HR-100 so I could set the levels to normal and be absolutely certain I was within one kernel of powder and not two kernels. The HR-100 has .002 a hundredth of one kernel which would mean almost ZERO or no more then one kernel variation. Being the OCD person i am i would like to know the i had the EXACT same charge weight for every case.

good luck
Trevor

I am not a big competitor so take my advice with a grain of salt. However, I use a tuned balance beam scale that I bought from Scott Parker, throw low and trickle up. It is a bit slow but accurate enough for my purposes.

I use this same combination but I think it is both fast and very accurate. Much faster than the GemPro that I used before.

Snap. Good combo, have mine set to Fast and it's def not affected to any extent by air movement in my den on the very heavy bench.

I looked at the far more expensive 100 model but decided a resolution of one --kernel-- of Varget was plenty good enough, given that the zero is very stable with these mag force restoration scales.

Same here. Works great for my needs.

I'm using an Ohaus M5 scale with a Frankford Arsenal trickler. I finish the trickling after I throw the charge with my Hornady AutoCharge.

If you are going to trickle, any old powder measure will work just fine to throw the charge. Those magnetic force restoration scales are as the saying goes "the bomb".
