Who made this barrel?

Might be a Savage factory barrel. Numrich Arms bought the barrels in process when Savage went belly up some years ago (90-91?). Savage didn't stamp the main info on the barrels until they were headspaced on actions. I bought several of these from Numrich and the only markings on them were a letter inside a circle, just in front of the threading -- like yours. All I used were good shooters. Still have the .223 barrel and it's had lots of rounds thru it and still a good shooter. Some of the barrels were crowned and some were not. Savage factory barrel threads tend to be somewhat flat, particularly older ones. Remember they have to be interchangeable with all actions of that thread size.

I think we have a winner! There is no law that requires any markings of any kind on a barrel that is not installed on an action. The person installing the barrel is responsible for markings. Granted, there are many barrels being sold for user installation that are marked, and the markings usually end up out of position to the receiver markings , even upside down or under the stock line.
It makes sense to mark the barrel in the right position after headspacing.

I think it is stupid no to mark a barrel . I would never buy a barrel that was chambered without being marked . I would want to know chamber neck and fb. Larry

On what mass manufactured rifle barrels (Win., Rem., Savage, Ruger, etc.) do you find neck diameter and freebore? Butch is right, there is cerrosafe if you have any doubts about caliber. Anytime you install a barrel you did not chamber, the caliber should be verified. The barrels I purchased from Numrich were all varmint contour and all turned out to be chambered as specified by Numrich.
Anyway, I think the thread was about who the manufacturer might be.

No they all have a standard chamber.
Without no marks or specification is a little dumb do you think. Larry

I've investigated hunting in a few foreign countries and some require the caliber to be marked on the barrel. On the ones I built for myself, I don't mark them, just keep an inventory list with the action serial numbers and pertinent info for that rifle.

Larry likes to see himself in print. And why should I look up your law, where is it written? Some countries require you brass to be headstamped with the cartridge desigination.

Why are you so negative ? The reason I have my barrels marked is for my safety . If I lend one to a friend he has all the information on it to make his own cases and not have a problem . I can tell you you would never sell a gun or a barrel in my area that isn't marked . I wouldn't want the to have to prove in court the barrel I sold was or wasn't mine . It your choice . Larry

Larry, Larry, do you understand reading comprehension? Read all of my post on the subject word for word. I never said that I didn't mark my barrels. I only said that is not required by law. Quit being an A$$.
