Who has a Canted Reticle in a Leupold ?

B]I know this is the wrong section to be posting this, but it appears THIS section gets the most use so,,[/B]

I'd like to hear from shooters who ACTUALLY OWN OR HAVE OWNED Leupold scopes with canted reticles. Over the last few months I've read post after post regarding this, but I have yet to see one, or meet anyone personally who has a canted reticle in a Leupold.

If you had a Leupold with a canted reticle, and got it fixed, I'd like to know who fixed it for you, and your impression with the customer service.

Again, looking for personal expierence, not second hand info.

Thanks,

Chris...

Bought a new EER 2.5x8 pistol scope with target knobs from Premier Reticles a couple of years ago to use on an XP-100 silhouette pistol. The reticle was canted 10 to 15 degrees CCW when the scope was vertical.

I was disappointed that Premier shipped the scope in that condition. Returned the scope to Leupold and the reticle was replaced. The workmanship was poor. Scratched knobs, scratched lens rings and etc. The second trip to Leupold corrected the problems and the scope has performed flawlessly since.

The reticle on my Leupold LRT 8-25 is canted about 2 degrees. I'vd mounted it so the cross-hairs are plumb, but that means the turrets are off-axis.

Haven't sent it in to be fixed yet. I have a Leupold 6-20 EFR that is just fine.

Here's a photo originally posted on the SWFA site: http://www.6mmbr.com/i/Reader%20Photos/Leupold_Canted_6-20LRTweb.jpg

KitSap,

What reticle was it? Did Premier install the reticle, or was it a sealed factory unit fomr Leupold?

Paul,,I hope I remembered your name right)

Looks pretty obvious. On second though,, it's the butler creek cap I'm seeing up top, not the turret. Not doubting you, but it's hard to tell in the picture. Do you have any without the butler cap out back? How does it track, and do you plan to send it back for repair?

Chris...

editted after another look at the pic.

The photo from the SWFA site is someone else's rifle, a 6-20. Mine's an 8-25. On the 6-20 photo, I agree you can't go by the Caps, but if you look at the action, you can see the reticle is canted.

I don't have a picture that shows the issue on my rifle. Suffice it to say, when I'm at the range, virtually every time some guy comes over and tells me I need to remount my scope because the turrets aren't square. At which point I tell him to look through the scope, where he can see that the crosshairs are plumb). The reaction is usually along the lines of "Whoa..." or "WTF, that's a Leupold?"

I should sent it back, but I'm a little worried they might make things worse. At least right now it holds zero beautifully.

I also have a 8.5-25 lrt and my reticle is canted a little to the right. I dont know how much. maybe 5 degrees? It always bothered me but i figured it was just me. until i read about it here and found out its pretty common. pretty sad for a $750 dollar scope. oh well. they dont make stuff like they used to

There hasn't been very many responses to this. So, should I take this ro mean canted reticles are not as big a problem as has been discussed, or guys just aren't reading this thread?

I asked this site on another board as well, and only 5 shooters had a Leupold with a canted reticle.

It would SEEM that this issue gets brought up quite a bit, but really isn't a widespread problem. At least, judging from the number of responses.

I have 14 Leupold scopes MK4's, LR/T's, some modified by Premier Reticles, some factory stock...none have canted reticles.

I also have an 8.5-20X50 VXIII that has the reticle canted about five degrees to the left. I have not gotten around to sending it in yet. I plan to have the MK I turrets added when I do.
