Who has a 22 ARC in an AR plat form

The 22 arc, from my research is "basically " a 22 grendel. I have a barrel on order, and I'm hoping for better luck than my 6mm arc!! If the 22 arc doesn't work better than the 6 arc did, I can honestly say I will NEVER buy into a Hornady cartridge again ! I shoot in matches at 2,3,385 and 5 hundred meters. 10 shots in 90 seconds at approx. 1-1/2 moa steel plates that have to be knocked off the stand. Has to be an ar15 platform, so you're limited on cartridges. IF the 22ARC lives up to the hype, it might be great for this. BUT......STILL NO BRASS !!! Come on Hornady, people are waiting on componets!!! rsbhunter

@rsbhunter I realize it may not be a happy thing to bring up, but what was the problem you had with the 6 ARC version you tried? Can you expand a little?
Do you think the issue will carry over to the 22 version, or was it just a bad barrel/chamber?

I’d like to know as well… What’s arc stand for? What different between Arc, creed, Valk?
ARC is based on the .220 Russian and related to the 6.5 Grendel.
Valkyrie is based on 6.8 SPC and related to 30 Remington

ARC and Valk are close in energy, but you are jumping up a step to get to the Creedmoor.

22 ARC is a 75 gr at 3075 fps giving 1575 ft*lbs ME
22 Valk is a 75 gr at 3013 fps giving 1512 ft*lbs ME

So as you can see they are nearly identical in terms of energy and capacity, so the difference boils down to the origins, i.e., the parent case.

Both are also marketed as being able to "fit" within the ARs capability. Keep in mind the AR platform was originally designed around the 1300 ft*lbs level, so taking it up to the above levels (1300 < 1575) is a an increase of 20% and requires some accommodation. An increased strength bolt is required, and lifespan could be shorter.

For the sake of answering your whole question... a 22 Creedmoor is that same bullet at roughly 3400 fps and that gives a ME of 1925 ft*lbs, so like I said this is much more of a magnum class and shouldn't be lumped with the other two.

Me and my buddy both bought the same barrel in 6 arc, he also bought a separate 6 arc barrel, so he had 2 different brands. All 3 , with factory Hornady match and the black box was one and done for brass. He had black box factory that was leaving primers in the mag and trigger area. And, before you question his knowledge, he's built probably over 50 ar's in calibers from 308 to 9mm pcc. We both had adjustable gas blocks, I had a JP bolt assy. I also at the same time had a 243 BHW ar barreled ar. Basically, a 6.5 grendel necked down. Almost the same cartridge, yet my 243 lbc would handle a full grain powder(same powder) more with no pressure....and 100-150 more fps. Accuracy on the arc was fair at best...I sold the upper (with full disclosure) and now shoot the 243lbc. If the 22 arc is another disappointment, I might try the 22 grendel, or get another 243 lbc. Just waiting on a bbl, have a Aero enhanced upper ready for it. rsbhunter

Curious myself what was wrong with the 6 ARC. I have a 6 ARC with a Douglas that shoots well. What type of 6 ARC barrel was on the rifle that was not satisfying I had a Valk. and it was OK, but I am looking forward to the 22 ARC. As for the game of shooting the known distance match, what is wrong with a 223 in the AR, other than the wind advantages of the faster rounds. 223 AI get great velocities in the AR.

What was the barrels used ? Did your friend chamber the barrels himself or just screwed someone's barrel onto the AR's. Not criticizing in anyway, just looking for some clarifications. I have screwed some together myself and some shot great and some shot ok. Depends a lot on barrel quality in the AR's and the ARC really depends on the quality compared to the off the shelf barrels. Many of the off the shelf barrels are made by other cheaper brands and renamed.

Good perspective.
Things like this can happen to early adopters. We run the risks that things have not standardized yet and the design or ammo isn't ready.
Hopefully, it was just bad luck and they have worked things out by now.

Either way, it is good for folks to hear things like this from experienced folks than to assume the world works the way it is shown on social media or YT, where everything is glamorous and perfect. Thanks for putting this out there.

I hope the 22 version works out much better for you and in for the range report.

Other than I have 5 223 ar's, I just couldn't see dumping $700 in to a top shelf barrel. I know they shoot, got beat on Sat by a friend shooting a 223 bolt gun, in a different match. Here in S.E. New Mexico, wind is almost a given (5-25 mph) and at times, no 2 wind flags pointing in the same direction. Having the case capacity to handle 85-90gr bullets can honestly make or break a win or a show. If we weren't limited to the ar15 size, I'd do a ar10 in 6br !! rsbhunter

I know the "twins" were E.A. Brown 26" barrels, his other one was a shilen or Shaw..... I don't expect br accuracy, but I demand decent accuracy from any platform. The newness of the cartridge might have bit me...I read guys that get great results with the arc. rsbhunter
