Who gets your stuff when you're gone?

A friend of mine has another friend whose dad passed away. Apparently the dad was a high volume reloader, and the son has no interest in anything guns. He “just wants this stuff gone.” He has been driving car loads of stuff over to my friend's house. Presses, die sets, various other reloading equipment and at this time, 20K primers and my friend has been told there's at least that many more coming.

Wow. Happy for my friend (who is not a reloader by the way, go figure) but I can't help but think I guess the heirs to this man's estate have no clue as to the value of this stuff. I mean the man invested in all of this stuff, they could possibly recover some of that investment and put it towards the grandchildren's' future. In the great scheme of things it wouldn't be a lot, but it would be something. Maybe they figure it's not worth the hassle.

Thanks for bringing this up. I really get perturbed when One of our love ones leave this earth and leave a
big mess behind, It's just wrong when it is so easy to take care of when you're still on this earth and can
make your own decisions about where you want to stuff to go. If you haven't already done it, take the time out and do a will or a trust or something. Don't leave it up to others to deal with, it's already bad enough that they have to figure out what the heck to do with YOU. And be sure to ask them if they even want
your stuff.
I am a widower who is in the process of building a Barndominium to live for my final days. When I move out of this pitiful city, I will be either taking a few things with me, donating some, or throwing it in the rented
dumpster. I told all this to my daughter who is a tax attorney that handles some larger estates and told her that when I'm gone you put the whole place up for sale. EVERYTHING! ! Farm machinery, implements, hunting cabin, all the shop stuff, complete house hold wares including everything in the refrigerator.
She referred to it as "Making it easy to clean up behind you". Do the same for your love ones.
Respectfully submitted,
Robert

Knowing my wife with in a week or so she will get a bug up her arse and have a big tag sale, selling it all at pennies on the dollar.
So when the end is near if I know it is coming I'm going to have a couple of dealers who but estates come in and make an offer on everything, I'll also offer to friends at cut rate prices.
Leave nothing if at all possible, that way there is no family feuds.

Where I am going I won’t be able to use them and will not care. Just hope they don’t end up being turned in to a liberal collection bin for a $25 Walmart gift certificate.

98 % of my stuff, guns, reloading equipment and supplies will go to the youngest son, he is the only one of the three children interesting in hunting/shooting. 90% of the firearms we have already filed with ATF and turned them over into his name, so they are his when I go and there is not hassle with the firearms being in my name, with the way the laws are now on passing on such items, to inherit with death of the registered owner.
As for the house, property and others items in a household, the the 2 boys and 1 girl will just decide to keep, sell and/or how to keep or get rid of. So the wife and I have it pretty well all taken care of and don't have a worry about it. She right now 80, with Parkinson's and I going on 83, but still in fairly good shape, and still hunting, fishing and shooting. And caring for her.

Sir, you have my greatest respect and I salute you.

Yes that's ashamed that we are all getting to that point. I've thought my oldest boy will take most of my stuff, my youngest boy hunts but not into long range shooting, more bow hunting and they will fight over that stuff also. Maybe it would be easier just to get them together and say what do yo want when I'm gone.

i would do that

I know I’ll be gone and it won’t matter what I think at that point, but it makes my skin crawl thinking my boys won’t be into firearms. I couldn’t imagine my boys loading my stuff up and just giving it to some pawn shop schmuck. I know it won’t matter then, but it bugs me now thinking about it.

We are getting soft as a nation, and I’m pretty sure gun enthusiasts and hunters will be declining as the years go on.

I am most likely on my way out , no kids or family exept my wife... Took her to a gun show and showed her how it works that combined with my friends I told her to sell everything she doesn't want and go on a long vacation... Guns don't go down in value , better than gold in my opinion... Right now all the ammo is worth a fortune and depending on this election will be for the better part of a decade...
