who finishes stocks

I have a PR&T lowboy that the action is inletted for the most part for a Haverkamp action and the barrel channel is there but needs to be opened a bit for a 1.250 straight taper

I will be using a haverkamp action and am just looking for someone that will get the action to fit right as well have the barrel channel oversized. I just want my stock to look great and have a strong clear coat that doesn't peel and chip easily


Does anyone know of a company that finishes stocks that are reputable.Thank you very much for your time Sir...

After you have the stock fully inletted and the barrel channel opened by the smith of your choice, you can finish it yourself if he won't do it for you or you don't want to send it off and wait a long time.

I'm doing a pair of identical PR&T lowboys myself. Borrowed a 30 gallon compressor and a $50 home depot spray gun from a fellow shooter. Bought some auto clear and all the ancillary and safety gear from a local automotive paint supplier. I took one of the stocks to the Berger SW Nationals, it looked good but needs a few more coats to fill in the wood and give it more of that "wet" look I'm going after. Will finish up both stocks this weekend.

Used the this site's stock painting guide as a basis. Let me know if you have any questions.

I did it in my garage, after moving both cars out while spraying (very important, the spray gets everywhere), covering stuff in plastic, and building a temporary spray booth out of a refrigerator box.

Make sure you use coveralls, eye protection, and a respirator too.
