Who does the best blueing?

Im looking to have a gun blued but I want the real deep blueing like you see on some of the european airguns. Can anyone reccomend someone?

Turnbull. Expensive but they do a good job and offer what your looking for.

One other thought, you might want to send Butch Lambert a PM, he is a member here on the forum and owns several nice rifles with beautiful bluing.

Thank you guys I will check them all out. Im putting together a savage no barrel nut and Im going to have it engraved in memory of my dad and he really loved deep blued guns.

I forgot to mention, do any of these guys do metal finishing or should I polish everything myself?
If you want them to guarantee their work, they will want to perform the polishing also. Gary Reeder does a phenomenal job, but it isn't inexpensive. His Black Chromex finish is out of this world.

Has anyone done a dark “blueing” (like the above pistol) on a CF action or barrel?
Gary does it on bolt action rifles, lever actions, single shot rifles and semi autos. The customs he builds is not limited to handguns;)

BTW: The bottom photo is a Ruger GP100:cool:

This is true, they are different. but "fine" or high polishing and rust blue don't really go together. Rust blue does in fact slightly etch the surface some and this is what gives it that very slight matte and very fine little "sparkle" in the metal. There is really no reason to polish any higher than a 320 finish for rust blue because the etch that takes place will set {in a manner of speaking} the final surface finish anyway. Also, more than a 320 finish and rust blue has a hard time getting "started". You really don't want a high ultra gloss chrome looking flawless Rolex polish on metal to be rust blued.
It also doesn't sound like rust blue is what the OP is looking for...rust blue has a slightly lighter blue "frosty" look to it. What he described is a very high polish and Oxynate #7

Edit: I have tried multiple times to upload a few photos of rust blued Parker DHE barrels and a 1911 "civilian" with high polish...but I keep getting a stupid "ERROR, server cant handle it" message. Anyone else having this issue????
