Whitetail bullets

Anyone have any real world experience with performance on different 30 cal soft point bullets ? Such as the Sierra gameking btsp , nosler ballistic tip , winchester power point ?
remington discontinued, there core lokt bullet which was the best performing bullet for white tail In florida that i've used.
I'm looking for a bullet that will perform similar to it. Winchester has their powerpoint available now in 150 grain .
Our average shot is about a hundred to a hundred and twenty yards. If that we always make a neck shot. So I need preforms like the old core lokt bullet , fast and big . I am leaning more towards the winchester.Powerpoint, and the sierra gameking.
i'll be loading for a 308.

What would have you think that? If anything,I think your short distance and desire for rapid expansion would have you trying something like the 125 grain accubond or ballistic tip. I switched to Bergers last year in my 6.5mm and cannot believe how quickly they drop deer.

Iv thought about the berger bullets but seen there lot of people say thay dont expand a lot but crush bone really good.
We make neck shots mostly so maby it would be good

Maby im thinking about barns not expanding much

The usual complaint is that Berger opens too quickly. Barnes would be the bone crusher. If you're taking neck shots, a Berger might be just the ticket. I was shooting them behind the shoulder. In three deer taken, only one exit.

That being said, I don't know that I'd be comfortable using them when a hard shot angle presents. I'll continue using them for broadside culling, but for close up or tough shots I'll be using a bonded bullet this year.

Our shots are anywhere from 80 to 165 yards max ! And 165yards is at only 1 food plot.. I try for neck shots but sometimes not possible

Gotta remember that our deer here in florida are about a hundred to a hundred and twenty pounds.Max they're not very big lol

With the weight of the deer in Florida, don't worry about a 30 cal not going through bone.

And if you thought Rem Corelokts were good, be prepared to have your mind blown !

Pretty much any weight of the Nosler Ballistic Tip will work.
And unless you're shooting nose to butt, you'll never recover a bullet.
Do be prepared! If you shoot a Ballistic Tip through a shoulder, you may end up with a hole as big as your fist.
Put them right at the crease at the back of the front leg, and let them work without wasting a bunch of meat.
Never had to chase/track deer with the 30-06 loaded with the 165gr NBT.
The NBT is my first grabbed bullet for any caliber!

The Partition works well, and that's no surprise.

My second go to bullet is the Berger VLD.
They may or may not give an exit wound. I have never had an exit wound with them from any cartridge that I've shot so far.
But the way they perform, you don't need an exit wound.
They perform as advertised.
Go in 1-3" then expand. RAPIDLY!
Makes a real mess of internal organs!!
I've only ever lost about a quarter sized piece of meat on both sides of the ribs. Usually find the jacket under the offside hide.

How effective are they?
My daughter's first buck. About 60-70 yards. She was using my Ruger 77 MKII in 257 Roberts. 115gr VLD.
"He flinched, kinda puffed up and went straight legged then fell over."

I killed about 30 culls using a 55 grain vmax from a 220 Swift. Only one went more than three hops. She ran 50 yards and then rolled like a rabbit hit by a load of #4. All were head or chest shots. All were totally devestating to the innards. Longest was about 200 yrds. Shortest about 80 yards. Chest hits thump like a bass drum. Selective killing. But every one was DRT

Killed alot of deer with Nosler BT out of a 22 250.
Berger bullets
Nosler BT
Hornady SST
Any of them will kill. I live in the south. I sold all my bonded bullets. Just shooting cup and core bullets.
Dont overlook Speer hot core bullets. Cheap price and does a very job.

My sons has been shooting the Hornady Spire point… I’ve been surprised how well his 308 groups and its killed every deer he shot. Its an old schol bullet like the core lokt

So the nosler ballistic tip sounds a lot like the Remington core lokt bullet..
We always try to shoot for the base of the neck like you were saying we really need to drop them where they stand we are surrounded by a swamp.

Every deer i've ever seen shot with that old remington core lokt had a hole about the size of a tennis ball

Sierra 125g jsp does the job perfectly.
125yd neck shot, whitetail buck drop on the spot. 165yd whitetail doe, neck shot, drop on the spot
365yd antelope shoulder shot, down on the spot.
308 win, savage rifle
