Which Trigger?

I have a Remington 700 in 30-06 with a Shilen barrel and a modified varmint stock. I use it mostly for 1000 yard target shooting. The stock trigger breaks clean with no creep but is inconsistant at 3 to 4 pounds. I would like to try an aftermarket trigger but I don't know if I should choose a super light trigger at 2-8 oz or a hunting trigger that is 1.5 to 4 pounds. My friend tells me the hunting trigger is better than what I have. I want the trigger that will give me the most accuracy. Which trigger?

If you are going to carry it in the field and hunt with it, don't get a 2oz target trigger. For starters, they don't like dust and dirt and they are practical in a hunting situation. A 2# trigger that breaks clean is pretty easy to shoot in field positions.

The C.G XTreme, made by Tom Myers offers two models for the Rem. 700:
-The Model 21, more terget-oriented
-The more recent Model 22, more practical.

Integrates all pull weights and settings to your preference.

My .02: the two stage from x-tremeshooting. True 4 lever 2 stage, safe to carry in field, easy to install and tune.

Tom Myers triggers are very nice. Maybe a little over kill,no puns)for a hunting rifle. Dan Armstrong has also given you very good advice. Every Jewell trigger comes with three springs. You order it with the weight you desire and they preset them. They take little adjustment to get right. If you deside to go lighter or heavier just change the springs. The Jewell is heads above the Rifle Basix and Timney in my opinion.

My rifle came with the remington X-Mark Pro trigger, which is pretty good after adjusting the pull weight on it. I put the Jewell trigger with safety on this rifle, and it is absolutely phenomonal! Its very easy to set up to whatever weight, creep, and overpull you like, easy to swap springs out on. The feel on this trigger is superb. You will not go wrong with a Jewell. Every couple hundred rounds or so, or after a good many hunting trips I pull the stock off and flush the trigger with some lighter fluid, that's the only maintenance that Jewell recommends.
