Which scope?

I just picked up a new Ruger 10/22 with the 20" heavy target barrel. It is drilled and tapped for Weaver type scope mounts. What make/model of scope would you mount to take full advantage of this rifle's capability?

Shooting paper or rodents/plinking?

Paper- 30 up to 40 fixed power scope like a Weaver, Sightron, or Leupold Competition.

For rodents or plinking, I like a classic 3-9x type scope. Burris or Vortex tend to be my go-tos.

This reply is late but here's my 2 cents on pistol scopes.

Eye Relief is EVERYTHING in a pistol scope. There's a reason the industry calls them EER scopes (Extended Eye Relief). If they don't have enough eye relief (about 18") you can't get a full image in the lens. Today I will not buy a scope until I can actual get to view through it first. Manufactures claims are all over the place and mis-leading. About a year ago I purchased three scopes at one time to fit some pistols because I can't see open sights any more. Only one of the three scopes had proper eye relief and even that one was still a little too short but was usable. The other two eye reliefs were really Scout Scope eye relief distance at about 12". I have two very old Leupold pistol scopes that still look great today.

In regard to power...................If your going to off-hand hunt anything in the field, I suggest a variable with the lowest power of 1 or 1.5. On the high end, nothing more than 6x. It's next to impossible to hand hold over 6x for any significant distance. At the bench with a rest and punching paper.......... go as high as you want.

Good glass and coatings can make or break a pistol scope selection when hunting in low light because the objective is so small to begin with. Buy the biggest objective (28-32mm minimum) and best quality you can afford for hunting. The optical brightness between a cheap scope and a great one at first morning can be huge. I've shot 6 or 7 deer with scoped pistols at morning and at dusk. You won't be sorry you paid good money for that better scope when raise it up to view your quarry through it.

Type of scope is gonna depend of a few questions...

What distance you gonna shoot the 10/22 ??
50 yards ??
100 yards ???
More than 100 yards ???
From a bench ??
Off hand ??
Paper ??
moving targets ??

All of the above ??

If all the above scenarios are applicable, I'd look for a 4-16x scope, or even up to 24/25x if it's not too heavy.

I like to keep my 22's lightweight for better versatility.

Need to know your budget and intended use. Targets, game or both? There have Lots and lots of good scopes for Ruger 10/22. So you need to choose the right one.

I have on different 22's ….4-12 Bushnell Trophy SF Parallax adjustment down to 10 yds....Vortex Crossfire ii 6-24AO Parallax to 10 yds....Sightron 8-32 TDT parallax to 50yds. Mostly shoot Rimfire Silhouette 25yds to 100 meters .

I have a 6-20 cheap Tasco on my heavy barrel 10/22. Not too good of quality but really don't need it. I can hit squirrels at 100 yards frequently and having 20X really makes it easier. Close up 50 yards, the 6X is perfect. The 20X was only for seeing squirrels up close and pinpointing head shots. Kind of a big awkward scope bit I like it.
