Which scope here should I get??

Going to be used for hunting and target shooting on a varminter 6BR

SWFA 3-15X42 FFP- $699

Sightron 3 FFP 6-24X - $999

Vortex Viper PST FFP 6-24X - $950

Anything else in this price range I should look at? Kicking around a leupold competition fixed power, but it may not be too optimal... On the other hand the fixed power zoom may help the wifey to aim in zoomed in on a deer more... I dont know..

I have a viper and its a great scope for the money. A fixed power you cant turn down at dusk so itll be too dark. The viper is better than the sightron but ive never compared it to an swfa

Well thats disappointing... I was thinking the sightron may be good. I looked through a vortex viper PST the other day and wasnt impressed, My fixed power SWFA 10X42 scopes are clearer... I'll have to take mine up to the store and compare them side by side at 10 power...

Thing thats hard to beat is the vortex warrenty...

I think you should check the classified a couple 8 -25 30 mm Leupold's on there and save some money maybe…… lifetime warrantee …… jim

Only time I've heard someone who thought the SIII was not better than Vortex:). Get the Sightron for under $900 at bigsupplyshop.

Big discussion on accurate shooter somewhere comparing Sightron to vortex. Looks like Sightron wins hands down.
I'm using a Burris veracity that I absolutely love.

My only experienced with Vortex was not good. we were trying to use three different ones at a shooting school. I would get a variable scope.

Never thought I'd be extolling the virtues of anything but a Leupold, NF, S&B...But my Sightron III 6-24X is a great scope. Bright, reliable tracking, etc.

I was amazed a few weeks ago shooting in overcast that the Sightron was CLEARER and brighter than a NF 5-22x56 !! But it was.

Bought mine off the forum three years back for $600.

I would at least buy the sightron if going new. However Johara is correct. You can get some mighty fine deals here and benchrest central. Keep in mind that burris, leupold, sightron etc have forever warranty used or new.

You may want to consider the Bushnell Tactical Elite. 6-24x50. It is amazing in its brightness and clarity. Since you mention hunting with it then in the FFP
model the range finder works at any power. You can usually find a discount from someone to put it in your price range. Their warranty is 1st class and their customer service is very good. I was actually shocked at the brightness and I think it's worth a look.

Sightron works best for me. I have multiple SIII Sightrons and multiple Vortex PSTs. Also Leupolds and Ziess. You will have to see what is best for your eyes.

Theyve never been known to be of "high quality"

It seems from the responses on this thread and MANY others, that they are known to be "high quality" (especially vs Vortex) everywhere except where you shoot. . .

When you have a gun that can agg in the teens you can find a bad scope quickly. Even frozen they didnt make the cut. Havent seen one in a match report in years or seen one on the line except at a long range match. But hey they sell em every day and i actually have a few.
