Scope search narrowed down... opinions?

For a custom trued rem 700 build -6BR hunting/varminter rifle. My wife will shoot deer 50-200+- yards, will teach her to shoot a little further on steel, then some bench target shooting....

Sightron 8-32 in the classifieds for $700!! I have one. Good scope.
Edit: Ok, get one in mil. Still a good scope.

I own three of the four listed, my personal favorite is the SWFA 5-20, crystal clear, repeatable POI, bright - love that scope. The Sightron is right behind it and then the Nightforce SHV f1. I like the Nightforce, just think it's not nearly as bright as the other two. However it does have a zero stop and the windage is capped, I like that for a hunting scope. Still like the SWFA the best, for me.

Never had a fixed IOR, I hear nothing but good about them.

All three of the ones I have, have good warranties and good resale. Tough choice. Good luck.
 
Not on your list but on my last trip to the range, a fella had a Mueller I think 4x14 with the Mil adjustments. I watched him shoot 100, 200, 400 and 600 yards and at 600 he managed to put together about a 5 inch group shooting a cheap 700 in 308 with factory ammo. I was impressed as this had only been his second time shooting at 600.... Each time he adjusted his impact point on target was very close to target center.....just sayin.
 
I'd opt for Sightron ... Have had mine next to several vortex .. The owners try to by my Sightron after wards ... Muellers are good scopes .... I have owened several ... The service department is good to deal with ( turned out it was me with the problem not the scope .. ) but they were great to deal with ..wasn't happy about paying return shipping though ... But I do still like them just wish they had a few more reticle options ... But in the end I much prefer my sightrons...
 
It's a hunting gun, you need a 3 or lower power on the low end. Of the ones listed the nf at 4 is the best choice, 5 is to high. It sucks but picking up a moving deer at 50 yards in bad light is hard with more than 3 power
 
I would pick either the SHV or SWFA. The SHV makes more sense as a hunting scope, but the SWFA really punches above its weight. The glass is awesome, tracking is perfect, turrets are good.
 
Been playing with a new-model scope most all would call junk. Today I compared it with one of my Burris Black Diamonds. Bigger field of view at 4X and the same field size at 16X. DOA 600 reticle, bright (right to the top power) and clear with great adjustments ---- Bushnell Trophy Xtreme 4-16X. They are 30MM tubes (China) with a super reticle design for drop and windage hold-off.

Cost me $161 on Ebay with a $30 rebate coming. I have shot it out to 600 yards on the 223, played with the adjustments but have not "run the box". All has been absolutely perfect. Side parallel adjustable, they also have the Trophy Xtreme in a 2.5 - 15 and 6 - 24X versions. Lifetime warranty yet dirt cheap and usable.
 
Generally speaking it's nice to have lower powers when hunting, but that's not always the case, it's not a hard and fast rule. We have some hunts out here in Arizona where we glass from points and the lower powers are useless. The majority of the other hunting we do it's nice to be able to turn down to 3x.

A 2.5-25x is an awesome power range, expensive and out of a lot of budgets, but nice.

Yeah i disagree with low power for hunting... variable is good... i turn it down sometimes, but also use it as a spotting scope. I have my uses...

Even if i get a 5-25X its not like you have to shoot deer with it on 25x... 10-15x works great most of the time.

50-250 yards is normal, but hogs at 400-800 yards are fun to... its usable in all situations... versitile..

Target shooting 25x would be nice to have...


I think im going with the SWFA.
