Which Rifle Rest to get

I am new at this, so I need some advise. I am looking for a front rifle rest. I am not interested in the coax. I prefer the all mechanical type. I was originally looking at the sinclairs benchrest, but decided to do some research. I ended up seeing that people rave over the loh and the fulgham rests. I am leaning toward the fulgham. But would really love some input from some professionals on this forum. If there is anybody who has tried both, please chime in. I wish I could see both in person side by side, but unfortunatley that is not gonna happen

Do you mind explaining why? Is the Sinclair well made and solid? I am a little nervous seeing the Sinclair is mass produced compared to ones that are machined and made by hand.

The elevation and windage knobs are right next to each other. I would bet there are more records held on that rest at 1k than any other. Keep everything tight and they are fine.

I agree with Alex, regarding the closeness of the controls. Have been using a leather bag to support my left hand during a string and I do not have to move my hand to make both elevation or windage adjustments. I have, on more occasions that I would like, forget to tighten the vertical post. That is on me. Is there a front rest where there is no locking screw on the post?

I had one other question if you don’t mind. With the Sinclair rest, what s height bag do you use in the back 2 or 4”? My butt stock is on the taller side

does anyone make a "wrench" that fits the knob ? more than once i have had my post drift down.

I have and use both the Sinclair and the J&J. The J&J is frightening good quality. I recommend it B U T ---- The Sinclair is both excellent and user friendly.

As for the Sinclair and that wrench for tightening - no real need. Normal tightening with the hand works well on mine and for back-up, I put a bolt in the other side to lock it in using a wrench. Set it up once and there's no issue.

I am proud to show off the J&J. I mostly shoot the Sinclair. It is win ...derful.

Ok. For the sake of my sanity, if the jj is that nice, why would you use the Sinclair most of the time?

Randolph Machine ( Fulgrum) to me is the right way to with the swivel
head(bag) that doesn't put any pressure on the forearm!
I've shot next to my that had the Sinclair and switched just for that reason alone.

I have had almost every rest made and I always end up with the Sinclair for long range bench rest. The SEB. is without a doubt the best for F class and short range score matches........ jim

I have used only one rest for the last 22 years....an older model Sinclair. I have added a Dunrud sighter cam, but other than that it is like it was back in the '90s. James

James, I use two different back screws a 1/2-20 for long range because you seem to get vertical with the speed screw. The speed screw for running around the score target....... jim

You are correct. I have the cam locked down for 300 and 600 yard competition. I used it in short range Br when I shot that discipline. James
