Which Rest?????

Guys I need some input. I'm looking for a rest to use for shooting ground hogs and prairie dogs. I will be shooting off of a bench I make.

My problem is my rifles have different stocks on them. My 6SLR has a Tracker with a 3" wide forearm. My 22BR has a stock with a 2 1/2" wide forearm. My 204's and 223AI have regular hunting style stocks. I'm looking for a descent quality rest without breaking the bank. Would love to own a SEB or Farley but not in the budget at the moment.

Which would you suggest and should I get different size front bags for the different stocks??

Thanks

Dave, have you seen the bipod I use for shooting chucks from my portable bench? It will work on flat or rounded forearms.

Even just some good old sand bags should work just fine.

I just set up my new Target Shooting model 1200 tonight. Awesome piece of machinery and the owner Wally is absolutely wonderful to deal with. But that's more of a long range BR competition style rest.

However, if you want rapid adjustments and quick control at a budget price for non-competition shooting, I think the Caldwell Fire Control joystick coaxial rest would work just fine.

Bill I do not think I have seen it. Could you get some pics of it for me??

Also sending pm for load data.

Thanks.

Thanks BigD,I will look into the Caldwell.

FWIW I have some Harris bipods that would work I feel I get better accurracy from a rest than a bipod.

Well you could put a homemade rest together . I made one from an old Honda scissors jack, topped it off with an eared protector bag. Not a SEB or anything like that but for shooting hogs off of a bench it gets the job done. Definitely low budget, I had the jack laying around, cost me the price of the front bag. Just a thought.

Immortal: You may want to consider what I ended up with after many years of using everything imaginable to the human mind. The Sinclair All-Purpose front rest is adjustable for forearm width, from my light sporters to my bench rigs with 3" wide forends. I use mine for all load development and for live varmint shooting in the rat patch here.

Here's mine on my BR Pivot Lite bench with my Cooper M21 VR 223 in the bags, affectionatly named "Rosa":

You can certainly pay more, or pay less by building something in the garage, but for the money, this all stainless steel and powder-coated cast iron rig does everything I've ever asked of it, and has for almost 20 years.

the lighter the better. bi pod front and small rear filled with corncob media.
by the time you shift a #20 front and a #12 rear 1200 times shooting and load and unload them in the truck 75 times you will see the logic. LT

Amen, LT. My bipod weighs in at 1 pound 5 ounces. And the rear bag is filled with lizard litter (similar to crushed walnut).
