Which precision rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor?

Guys, I need some advice for my first "precision rifle" . I stopped by my local gun shop and was eyeballing a masterpiece arms rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor. Wow what a really nice looking rig. This got me into looking at other brands like the tikka t3x tac1, ruger precision, and the remington 700 precision rifle. While the masterpiece rifle looked great, it was also the most expensive. I have heard great reviews on the tikka t3x tac 1. This would be mostly used for informal mid to long range shooting. Just thought I would see what others have experienced . I'm an experienced shooter and reloader, but just haven't got into these types of guns.

For the money you can't beat the Ruger RPR. I have the 6.5 Creedmoor and it is a "Hammer"!! Sub MOA to 1000+yds.....

Is your ctr the 20" or 24" version? Are you using the factory stock? How does it group? I have a few Tikka rifles and I really like the quality for $$$.

I just picked up the Tikka Tac 24" .308. Love it.... would buy it again. I handled an MPA before I bought the Tikka, and it was real nice, but the Tikka was darn close enough in feel to me.

Groups well with Prime so far. Given I am still getting used to shooting a chassis, I am getting .500 to .650 groups at 100y. I can feel that the rifle is more accurate than the above.

I know you are asking about the 6.5, but I can't imaging the, chassis, bolt, etc. feeling different. It would probably be a hair more accurate with the 6.5, but who knows.

BTW, the provided brake is effective with out being overly loud.

I have a Master Piece Arms and Ruger Precision. If you want one of the best, get the MPA. They guarantee 3/8" moa for the 6.5. Mine shoots that easily. My first 6.5 Creedmoor was a Ruger Precision Rifle. Great price but hard to get it shoot much under 1 moa. I replaced the barrel with one from Patriot Valley Arms and immediately cut moa in half. But the best by far is the MPA. It really is a buy once and cry once - it will last you forever with unbeatable quality and performance.

I bought a RPR when they first came out and earlier this year I got a Bergara HMR Pro. The Bergara is a far better rifle in my opinion. The fit and finish is much better anyway you look at it on the HMR Pro. The MSRP on the two rifles I believe is about $100 differnce.

Seems like I hear the same as I have read about the Ruger rpr. While they are great rifles for the money, there are better, more accurate rifles if you want to spend a few more bucks.

It is the 20" version because I wanted to hunt with it and a suppressor. These are two groups I shot on the day I was breaking it in. Maybe they were both flukes, but for a factory gun, with factory ammunition; I'm impressed. That was Hornady 129gr American Whitetail and Prime 130gr, which I think uses a Norma bullet. I priced Whitetail yesterday on the web and found it for $17.99 a box. The Prime has also given me groups at 500 yards that were around 4.5". I am not an accomplished shooter or wind reader, but to walk out the door with something that shoots like that floors me. When I bought my first custom rifle over 20 years ago, I had to pay 2K to get those kinds of groups.

The only negative is the stock looks and feels cheap.

The stock was my biggest concern with the Tikka CPR. One could always put it in a nicer stock or chassis and still be cheaper than the MPA.

+ $1k to upgrade to an Accuracy International.

In the long run that really not a whole lot for a proven system, with a switch barrel system. 1k isnt really that much in the overall picture.

I agree, the Tikka stock is not great, especially if your used to traditional stocks. Tikka are fantastic, but you might get a different model if your gonna lose the stock anyway.

Take a look at the the Bergara B-14 (HMR or BMP) in 6.5. I think these are about the best bang for the buck currently. I would likely recommend these to a buddy on a budget and who does not reload.

I would steer clear of the R700 and Ruger.

I purchased an RPR about 1.5 years ago. Changed the butt stock to a Magpul for easier adjustability - otherwise it is "stock". With handloads 5-shot groups are consistently under 1" (best is under .750" ctc) at 200 yards off a bench. Are there better alternatives out there? Most likely. But my experience has been positive with no regrets.

Does anyone know if the tikka CLR 24" and the Tac1 share the same barrel? I'm thinking maybe a 24" CLR in an MDT chassis. Would still be less than a tac1.
