I'm wanting to purchase a pointing die,,,but I'm torn between the Whidden or the Hoover...I'm sure both are outstanding products. Which did you choose and why? Does one or the other have a better end result or easier to use,,,quality between the two?

If it matters I will be pointing Berger 180gr hybrids and possibly some JLK's in 180gr as well.

I bought a Whidden. Reason? Because a used Whidden popped up before the Hoover and I was able to save a decent amout of $ over buying new.

This is the same reason I purchased a Whidden over the Hoover. I have never used a Hoover so can't comment on them. I am very pleased with the Whidden.

Makes one wonder how 3 inserts can point all the different profile bullets...... I'll stick with the Hoover :)

My buddy bought the Whidden and I bought the Hoover. After seeing how the Hoover pointed the bullets he bought Hoover and sold the Whidden. The Hoover Made a better transition from the Ogive to pointed part. It was not as aggressive or belled. This was with both 6mm and 30 cal bullets. The Hoover was also better as far as quality of materials and machining. Matt

I like Whidden.

But I also like Coke over Pepsi, Harris over Atlas, NF over March, Berger over Sierra, and Forster over RCBS.

To each his own ;D

I have both and they both do what they should.

I vote for the Hoover.

Thier trim die set up is also top notch. I also use it for sorting and bearing legtht measurements.
