Howdy all,
I know everyone has their own opinion... but if you were to go buy one on a middle class budget what would you get???
I'am all about aftermarket stuff to tune them up so it can be work in progress!!
I guess I'm asking is what would be a good platform to start with???
Thx

How you are going to be using this new rifle might help with recommendations also.

Going by the highlighted part of your statement.....CZ all the way.

Just a plinker or some competitions?
You stated, "middle class budget"
That means different things to different people.
You can build off a CZ or Bergara action and be cheaper than a
full blown RimX or Voodoo.
I've seen a lot of CZ's hang with the big money builds.
A lot has to do with finding the right ammo that your build likes.

For what I do shooting plates out to 300yds I don’t need a voodoo or RimX for that so I have 7 Bergara and they all serve me well and shot as good our better than any UGLy CZ that ever been in my camp forsure the 452 where the best every made

I've had 2 Vudoos, a RimX, and a 452. I still own a gen 1 Vudoo with some modacam love. Kinda wish I still had the 452.

Love my rimx and sold both my vudoos and both my cz. Rem700 footprint action and so many barrel options in any budget range thst you can install yourself.

I have a Cz mtr and Bergara b14 trainer. For what I am shooting (prs/nrl22) it’s Bergara for me, my cz is on the chopping block. Bergara has better mags, runs smoother and shoots as good as my cz and my Annie. Also uses rem aftermarket parts and has more weight than the Cz. Good luck

I use a CZ MTR. It’s always a work in progress trying to milk the most accuracy. I compete out to 300 with it. The rifle is “capable” but keep in mind that it’s easy to sink a lot of cash in the tweaking. If you like to tinker, it can be satisfying. I also use a Kimber 82G out to 200 that I’ve worked on. IMO, it boils down to how much time, effort and cash that you are willingly to invest. Good luck with your endeavor.

The best advice I could give someone on a rifle purchase is to be honest with yourself and answer what you want the rifle for. Do you plan to hunt\prs\nrl\benchrest? If this is the answer then the CZ or other production rifles are probably your best choice. If you only have plans of shooting from bench and tipping into competition a used specific benchrest rifle is your better option. There are tools for a job. Some tools can be used to get the job done but at a compromise. Used benchrest rifles can be found at decent price if not in a hurry. The prices I see for these dual purpose rifles is shocking. I think for the same money a person could have a competitive rifle if they decided what they wanted it for. Just my opinion and something to think about.

Just want mainly a bench gun to shoot steel and targets out to 200 yds

For that most of them will do. What is your actual budget? If wanting to stay cheap you can get a CZ or Bergara but if you wanted to go a little more you can find a used RimX or Vudoo. Buying used in the rimfire world isn’t a bad thing as the barrels take a lot more to “burn out” than a centerfire.

You can use cheap ammo like SK Standard in a Vudoo without issue but if talking that bulk box/bag/jar stuff I wouldn’t know as I wouldn’t even put that in my CZ.

Vudoo is a waste… the original company (and management) was sold and new owner bankrupted it, stole customers’ deposits without delivering rifles, failed to pay critical vendor. … blah blah blah. This new owner reorganized and relocated to Oklahoma and repeated same incompetence and shady business activity. Snipers Hide has a few related thread of the ongoing drama. Not to mention that apparently all manufacturing and assembly of recent Vudoo rifles was/is outsourced. FAIL

There are several manufacturers introducing high-end quality rifles with better quality, innovation, and customer support.

CZ is the most popular option, especially for the price value.
