which of these scopes would you get?

I don't have the opportunity to look at these in person, so need some help.

I've narrowed down my choice to either the viper hs 6-24x50 xlr or the s111 8-32x56 (not sure which reticle...like the moa-2 but I'll primarily be using it for varminting under spotlight and concerned the exposed turrets may shift? Otherwise the fine cross hair or 1/4 or 1/8 target dot???

Please comment too on glass difference, field of view, eye box (by this I mean which is easier to get behind) and anything else worth mentioning.

I'm thinking that the 56 bell may be an advantage for my situation?

Either is a good scope, the 56 mm front is a slight advantage but wouldn't be my deciding factor. My only question or concern is being able to see the fine reticle or small dot under those lighting conditions. Personally, I would be opting for an illuminated reticle.

Just as a reference my friend who lives elsewhere has a Leopold 8-25x50 with their varmint reticle(not sure which model exactly-one of the higher ones) and I understand that is fairly fine. He uses it for the same intended purpose no worries.

Would the 1/4 dot cover too much target(paper punching) at 100y?

They have very positive clicks. I couldn't see them shifting inadvertently. What you do have to watch is that the turret is secured to the stem by a single setscrew on the top of the turret-body. It can occasionally come loose so the turret revolves on the stem losing you the zero unless you know the setting it was on before slipping. This seems to be more likely to happen if the scope undergoes large temperature changes during the day. I found this at Raton in August, fortunately on the first practice day, so checked the screw tightness at the start of each day's shooting after that.

IMHO 6 or 8 power on the low end is not going to be low enough to use under spotlighting conditions...Unless your using the Surefire Hellfighter as a spotlight. Most spotlights will limit you to about 100-150 yards of good visibility. After that most lights die out too much to really be able to identify your target and what's beyond it.

One of my favorite nite scopes I use for spotlighting is a 3.5-10x50 Leupold with the illumination

I have an SIII 10-50X60 and the turrets have never budged while in transport (hard case) however in the event they did they are clearly marked and re-setting to your previous windage/elevation would be simple... They are a very nice piece of glass for the money and i wouldn't hesitate to replace it with another sightron in the event i needed to.

If it were me I would go with the SIII 8-32x56 and make sure you dont order the mildot as it is ridiculously large and just plain dumb. The moa is the way to go.

the sightron 8-32 1/4 Moa dot works fine for me it does not obscure a target and you can see it fine in low light conditions, good glass as well.

Check out the S-III 3.5-10. It has ilum and is a fine scope. I have the 8-32X56 on a 300RUM with the LRMOA reticle and could not be happier. I don't think the exposed turrets will be an issue....but for peace of mind you could always put a scope coat on it till you get setteled in.

How is the elevation turret numbered on the SIII 10-50x60? I have had several Weaver T36's and liked them a lot, except that the numbers on the elevation turret go from 0 to 4.5, then back to zero. Since I shoot at several different distances, it was all but impossible to keep track of scope settings till I swapped the turrets out for some made for the T-24, which go from 0 to 9. Now I'm toying with the idea of trying an SIII 10-50x 60, but don't want to fight that problem again.

0-9 on the SIII10-50 and the mildot isn't that bad...SIII mildot has a crosshair center point of aim

I've not shot the HS, but I have shot the 6-24x50 PST; that said, I get the Sightron every day of the week and twice on Sunday

Regarding the turrets moving in a case, I use a double rifle "drag bag" type soft case; and they haven't moved yet. They're very positive and likely wouldn't adjust unless you were abusing the rifle case to begin with.

Hi guys. Thanks for all the comments. I have not looked through the vortex but I have now looked through the sight ron. Its astounding. I only have a Nikon monarch and vortex viper to compare it to but it blows them out of the water. The clarity and brightness is just amazing. The moa 2 reticle is perfect for me. The lines are just the right thickness and the floating dot immediately centres your eye on target. Bravo sightron.

I have a sightron 10-50x60 and very solid done some spotlighting with and no issues with the turrets being expossed. And for the price you'll spend double to do better. Word of advice buy high rings if you have a bull barrel.
