Which Magnum?

I have a 7 rsaum for shooting the 180 hybrids. I have a Bat m with a magnum boltface on order. I am leaning towards a 300 wsm. It is strictly "because I want to add to my toys" gun. Non competition paper & gongs 600 to 1000 yards. Starting to wonder about a bigger 7 than the rsaum for the berger 195 with the amazing b.c.. 338 lapua way too much recoil for me!

Any thoughts are appreciated.

28 Nosler is awfully nice. Efficient use of the ultramag case with less waste. I have a 28 launching the 195's at 3100 fps and have a friend doing 3200 fps. I am getting single digit ES with the load and .3-.4 MOA groups at 600 yard which is awfully good for a 22X scope. BTW, I had a 7mm Ultra, just to prove I could, and was disappointed. STW is nice, but essentially a Nosler light.

Hello Bob.. It would be very difficult to beat your original thought of the .300WSM.. I have a friend who shoots one with the 230 Hybrid. He is getting right at 2885 F.P.S. and amazing accuracy. His biggest drawback is the recoil under the stress of shooting F-Open and the L-O-N-G shot strings associated with it. However, for what you are looking at, you would be hard pressed to eclipse that .300 WSM!

^^^THIS^^^ Also, give the 215 Hybrid a try. my 300 WBY tubes like the 230, and my 300 WSM tubes like the 215. Also...I would think that the tube life on the 300WSM would be MUCH better than a hotter 7mm!!

Good luck,

Tod

I'd put in consideration brass availability and cost. I'm looking at a 7/300 win mag and the 7mm rouge now. I'm going to run 27" regardless of which. And I can get 300 win mag brass for 65cents each new primed.
