Which Gunstock to Use?

Amongst the many great options for building a custom 6BR rifle, I have decided to go with a Stiller TAC 30 single shot action w' Jewel trigger, a Krieger 1x8 twist #17 HV contour barrel- 28" and now I'm trying to decide on a top quality stock. I like the McMillan A5 and the Manners T4A and the T4 with no adjustable cheek piece. I want to mount a,probably)56mm objective scope atop and herein lies my question; which company makes a better quality stock for the money? Also with that type of scope setup, does anyone think that I would really want or need a raisable cheek piece? I don't care to spend $200 for a feature if it is not needed.

The two makers you mentioned produce great stocks either way you will be in good shape. I prefer Manners because you can get one and Tom has treated me very good in the past. As for the cheek piece I would spend the $200 on bullets and shoot more if it were me

as stated befor there both great stocks. There is less wait for a Manners. If your looking for colors other then solid or painted on finishes MCM is the only way to go. As far as the cheak peice i would go for the adjustable just for the fact that you can get whatever kind of cheekweld your used to no matter how high you have to mount the scope
Hope this helps

I have never owned a fiberglass stock so no help there but I do have a rifle with a 56mm objective. I can tell you here and now you will need an adjustable cheek piece. The scope will be mounted very high to have the bell clear the top of the barrel. On my rifle I have to rest side of my jaw on the cheek piece to get my eye up high enough. Also, the adjustable cheek piece may need it to be relieved to allow the bolt to come al the back during shooting. But your stock maker will know “if” or “if not” to relieve. I would use the thumb wheel type. They are more ergonomic. I think they look better as well.

Dan has a good point with robertson stocks. as far as stock finish straight from factory you cannot beat the robertsons gel coat
