Which front rest?

Hello,

As of now, I do not shoot any competition. I just enjoy shooting groups and seeing how how I can make my rifles perform (when the nut behind the trigger isn't loose :D) So, I am just looking for a couple opinions on a front rest. I am thinking about the Caldwell Rock BR. I wouldn't think I need any kind of hotrod rest just for fun shooting.

Thanks,

Matt

Matt, the search function should yield plenty of info. This question has been asked quite a few times, on this forum and others (like benchrest.com).

The answer is always "it depends". 8)

I used the Caldwell/Midway $75 'Rock' rest for quite a while, and it was fine. If your rifle has a stud in the forend, (vs. just the guy holding the rifle), then I prefer a bipod because they're so dang convenient. The basic 'Wichita' rest is heavy duty, and then the price goes up to $200+ for the Joe Cowan (CTC) rest, and then the Sinclair and the like up to Farley/Loh pinnacle.

My front rest is a stack of 875 one dollar bills. I came in seventh ;). Might need to upgrade.
Good one. You really cracked me up!

I picked up a Caldwell Firecontrol. Seems to be alright.

Can be a little bit of a pain to get set up again after a recoiled shot. But in my mind it gives the barrel a little extra time to cool down.
