Which brass would you choose for 20 Vartarg?

Once fired 223 Lake City converted to 20 VT, cases fully prepped including necks turned for 50 cents each or new Lapua 221 Fireball without neck turn for 70 cents? Which should be more accurate? How about durability?

I had a 20VT built back in May. I went with Lapua 221 Fireball brass. I had to turn necks down to .0105. Reason was my reamer I got was a .229 neck. I was planning to turn 200 peices and only did 100. There are reamers out there that are specd for Lapua brass that dont require neck turning. If I had to do it over I would still use Lapua brass but would get a reamer with the right specs for it. Accuracy wise it shoots in the .2s at 100. No load development either.

I use both the Lapua & Norma in my Borden without turning, but the Savage is another story. Has a 227 or 228 (can't remember) & I always used Lake City I prepped myself for that one. Course, when I got it the Lapua & Norma weren't available yet either. Both rifles shoot quite well with 32 V max, too. If you have a no turn neck, I'd bypass the LC figuring better case life if nothing else.. Just my two cents.

I was leaning to the LC because i prefer not going through the work of neck turning 1000 cases but if there is a significant improvement in accuracy and brass longevity I would buy the Lapua and turn them. One concern I have with LC is the loaded neck diameter after turning would be about .007 to .008 smaller than the I.D. Of the neck chamber. Wouldn't that mean much lower case life than Lapua brass which would have maybe .003 or .004 clearance?

I have about 1,000 20VT and 20SCC cases made from LC09 brass and get great accuracy. Now whether there an accuracy advantage I have not shot Lapua brass so no experience. The internal volume I think is a little less with the LC09 brass than Lapua, the LC p9 brass is pretty tuff so I don't see why you couldn't tune your load to either brass. Also whoever is making you the LC brass couldnt turn them to whatever you want 007-008 is a little much .003- .004 would be better less working of the necks. I think you would be happy with either as long as the neck dia is what you want. Just my 2 cents
