Which brand of stock?

I am starting to look at putting together a new build and am trying to figure out what stock, although i am bouncing between 2 actions yet, one has a seven hundred foot print the other would probably have to be custom inleted ? How ever at this point in time i am leaning towards the one with a 700 foot print. NOW the big question, what brand of stock? A few people have mentioned that bell and carlson stocks are towards bottom of barrel, is that true? i always thought their stocks felt good. So what other brands should i consider and look at any thoughts would be greatly apreciated,

Spike, the first question you are going to get asked here is, what type ( discipline) of shooting are you going to do?

Yea... tough question... i plan on target shooting , maybe some wood chuck hunting, and MAYBE some day competing in some sort of f class but that's not in the near future I don't think

Well I've shot my Bell & Carlson in f/class, off the bench, and in positional prs. It is a well made strong stock. I have done the same with my McMillan also, I like my B&C better. These are for Savage actions. Seeing that you will have a Remington footprint you may want to look at what Stocky's Stock has on his web site.

As recommended by another member, greybull makes a fine stock as well for only the Remington footprint. I've been looking at them for quite some time and just heard they are great stocks. Check them out. Sounds like what you are looking for.

Those greybulls do look nice might have to give them a call to see if any way to get it done up for a single shot

So the action is a single shot...You will find that to get a single shot stock will require a custom inlet from someone like McMillian/Manners for synthetic stocks. However, there are a few "adl" Remington footprints. HS Precision makes a 40x stock that will work for a blind magazine or single shot. Another option is there are many "bdl" Remington footprints. Instead of using an adl trigger guard, you just use the bdl bottom...

I have H.S. Precision, B&C, McMillan stocks on various rifles. Each meets a certain mission. If you visit your local gun club range, you may be able to do a little comparison shopping without spending any money.

Those Choate stocks are good for the money. They come in ADL style synthetic.Just got one lately. Check them out.

Wouldn't a guy simply purchase the factory BDL hinged floor plate and use it as is ? Sure, it wouldn't function but he'd have a stock that would function fine as a single shot but not need to use the BDL mag assembly. Would keep his stock options open to a wider offering.

That's what I do also. The HS precision stocks that I use only come as a BDL. Just put the bottom metal on in and you're good to go.......

If budget allows you to buy whatever you want and you have time to wait then Manners are great stocks, made in a variety of configurations. Be warned, they often miss their delivery dates though. McMillan does a good job with lots of configurations too, their swirly color options are limitless. I own HS, B&C, Manners, Mcmillans and a couple no name laminates I bought of EBay. My two favorite in the field hunting rifles both wear HS lightweight stocks, they just fit me, look good, their tough and they hold their value. Your choice of a 700 footprint makes your options endless, no other action has nearly as many options. Used stocks come up all the time but they rarely save you more than 20%. Mentioned already is Stockysstocks, they have an in house brand that was on sale for 179 bucks and looked like a nice all around configuration. Also mentioned was going for the BDL option, I think that option gives you many more choices than an ADL. Let us know what you choose.

Bedding block and all. Just needs a paint job. Have been looking at one recently. That price is tough to beat for what is offered.
