Needing a new 308 barrel. Savage pre fit, large shank. My choice is Shillen or Criterion. I currently have a Shillen on my f class 223 & been very happy with it. My understanding is that some guys who worked at Shillen went out on their own and started Criterion. ?????
Criterion is $75 less. They offer a "match" barrel.
Shillen offers a "match" & a "select match", which is what my .223 barrel is.
Anyone know the difference between the two Shillen barrels?
Any experience with Criterion?
A Shilen select match barrel is inspected to slightly tighter tolerances than a Shilen match barrel. But it's possible to find a match barrel that's within select match tolerances.
Both Shilen and Criterion are at, or near the upper end of lapped, button rifled barrels. Flip a coin and you'll probably be happy. Northland Shooters Supply sells both and probably has the best price.
