I want to shoot the 88 ELD from a 223.

You can get pretty impressive velocities with CFE-223 and 88 ELD-M. I’ve got a 26” barrel and breaking 2800 fps is easy. Of course accuracy trumps velocity any day. Proceed with caution of course.

But what was your SD? The few times I have measured that powder in my bolt gun I get an SD of somewhere between 20 and 30 fps.

If you could get a savage barrel with the 1/7 twist, it would and could shoot as well as many other name brand barrels. But getting a savage barrel like you want might be a issue. So check out other brand name pre-fits for a barrel and buy the one that fits your need and price range.
