Which Anschutz, 64 R target sporter vs 64 mpr

As subject line states. I want to purchase one of these rifles. I tossed around a Savage and CZ and those two are comparable. Then I decided to go for the 22lr which will last the rest of my life Ha ha ha ha. I laugh because I know there will be more.
The barrel length is longer on the mpr than the R target and the stock is different. I plan on using this for bird hunting while moose hunting but mainly for a long range practice rifle. I am leaning toward the mpr but the 250 dollar price difference means better base and rings. The R target sporter is $1050.00 here in Canada.

I read several anschutz posts but did not want to hijack them.

I have an MPR in .17HMR. Even without a scope, for me, it's way too heavy for a hunting rifle. I use it only on the bench and have sporter versions in CZ and Anschutz for hunting. It is the most accurate .17HMR I own though.

Dino,
I don't know if you've felt or held a 64mpr, but it definitely isn't a light rifle to carry around. Having said that, I've had my mpr for 3+ years and without question and FOR THE MONEY, it is the most accurate .22 I've seen on the market. I used it primarily for Benchrest local competition shooting and all I've done to it is to add a Harrell tuner and put a Leupold 35X Competition Scope atop her. She's won several of these competitions, shooting against the higher priced custom jobs including 40x's, Halls', Turbo's, Sako's and even a few 54 actioned Anschutz's. It all boils down to finding out which Match ammo your particular rifle shoots the best. But again, FOR THE MONEY, impossible to beat in terms of accuracy. Downside is the weight because she's a beast for sure, but is worth it to me because of her accuracy. Mine happens to like Federal Ultra Match UM22 which is now around $18 to $30 (when you can find it) per box depending on where you end up buying. Lapua Midas+ and CenterX also shoot very well, but none of the Eleys (including Tenex) worked for me. That's not to say it won't work in your's. Gotta test to find out. And in case you aren't aware, testing should be done at 50 yds and not 25 yds that some do. Heck my Savages shot great at 25 yds but once you got to 50 yds, points dropped fast. But not with the MPR. Good luck whichever way you decide to go.

Thanks for the response to my post. I have not had the chance to hold either of the rifles I mentioned. I did contact the seller in the area, 3 hours away and at that time he had both in stock. I will be in his area on the 14th and will make my choice then.
Which do you think would be the most accurate of the two mentioned. As stated I want this mostly for my long range practice rifle. One dealer here said the R target sporter is a better 3 position rifle because of the stock configuration. What are you opinions on that.

Again thanks,
DinoS

I have the MPR. I bought it from Champion shooters probably 15 years ago, used for 400 dollars, and it was perfect. It still is perfect, and shoots like a dream. I use mine in northwest Pennsylvania for squirrel hunting. I take a pair of shooting sticks, and some standard velocity wolfs 22 lead rounds. I keep my shots under 50 yards, but I shoot them right through the old noggin. Yes, it is a bit bulkier than most 22 rifles, but there is not a better shooting rifle out there.
But whichever you decide to purchase, you will not go wrong.

Dino,
I'd have to say that which model is a better three position rifle, is a matter of personal preference. That's why I said you have to feel them both to know which feels better to you. I shoot my MPR strictly off a Benchrest position and the extra weight of the MPR is helpful especially if you decide to go "free recoil" off the Bench. As I'm not familiar with the RSporter model and have not shot one, I don't know if it has the same heavy barrel the MPR does. The heavy barrel MAY annoy some folks in a three position shoot if the R has a sporter sized barrel. But with Anschutz and the quality of their barrels, accuracy doesn't even become an issue. Just my thoughts.

My favorite is Burris Signature Zee rings with these bases: https://www.jnpgunsprings.com/product_info.php?cPath=8&products_id=239

I've also used Burris Sig. Rimfire/Airgun rings mounted in the receiver grooves and Burris Sig. "Standard" rings atop the bases made for 'em (Redfield, Burris, etc.) As you might've guessed, I like Burris Signature rings. ;D
