Which 6.5mm?

Can the 260 rem get >3k ft/sec with <40 grains powder, 120 gr projectiles? I don't think so.

The 47mm case can.

Case efficiency is why I give it a nose over.

All other aspects are generally the same.

AI cases never interested me, in terms of fire forming.

I have two 6,5x284's and one 6,5x47L, love them.

The 260 might use a few more grains of powder, big deal. It can still launch any weight bullet faster than the 47L would.

If you want to go off efficiency alone then the Creedmoor's the ticket.

All other aspects 'generally' the same . . . except the x47L can't throw heavier projectiles nearly as well as the 260 if all things are pushed equally hard.

You don't like AI cases, maybe the OP does or maybe even prefers it?

There's a difference between posting facts and opinions stated as facts.

I have a 6BR, 243, 243 SRC, 6.5/06, 6.5/06 AI, 6.5/284, 6.5/47 L, 260, and a 270.. The easiest and straight forward is the 260. Everyone should have one. A no brainer for your requirements. IMR4064, H380. Enjoy

I need some suggestions on which 6.5mm to go with. This isn't going to be a bench rifle and doesn't need to shoot beyond 600yds, and won't be over 300yds most of the time. I have a few criteria I would like to meet, besides that, I'm open to most any suggestions. I really just want a fun rifle that will hit where I aim and handle some hunting if I want to use it.

1) Must fit in a short action Savage, mag feeding optional.
2) Nothing that requires custom dies.
3) Brass must be readily available or easily formed from another round.
4) Enough power to reliably take whitetail deer
5) Prefer 2000+ round barrel life under normal conditions.
6) No WSSM's, not even an option
Other than that, whatever I can come up with or you can suggest.
7) Not a requirement, but it will be a 1-9 twist barrel and a maximum 27" length

I have been thinking of a 6.5 Grendel or 6.5BR, but only for the light recoil so my girl can shoot it, though I don't mind a more powerful round either. Just looking for other options and suggestions. Just throw out what you would use and why.

Thanks

Kenny
Hard to beat either of those cartridges.

The Grendel meets your criteria and I can attest the recoil is light vand the cartridge is accurate.

after 10yrs maybe he can tell us what he decided on?

If he's like me, he'll have tried half a dozen by now - and shot their barrels out. When I say 'half a dozen' I mean that literally having played with exactly six cartridges in the calibre, all in range not field use.

Favourites? 6.5 Grendel and 6.5X55mm SE.
Least liked? 6.5-284 which I am jinxed with, and have to admit to serial failure with this one.

For field work, (hunting) there are 2 cartridges that can do it all, the 260 Remington and the 6.5x55 Swede. The 260 works well in shorter barrels then the Swede but can use a 26" well, the Swede can use up to a 30" producing plenty of velocity.

The good thing about the 260 is it can be Ackley Improved and will definitely perform with the best of all the 6.5 s out there with the right loads. I own 2 of the 260AI s ( hunting & BR ) and love both of them. Accuracy is top notch.
