How would the 250ai compare to the 257ai side by side?
...If you ever stumble on another 700 Classic in 250 Savage, set it aside for me...
That looks great. Would you tell us more about your rifle?I’ve enjoyed my 25x47L. Alex Wheel put it together a couple years ago and it has become the favored rifle by my wife and two daughters that hunt. Bolt floater floated the bolt and did the shroud work. I shoot a mild load of 42 grains of H4350 behind a BIB 110. The rifle is racking up a serious score card. Mostly deer and coyotes but two elk are included, one dropped in its tracks, that other went 60 yards with a hole in both lungs. Its such an easy and fun caliber to load, simply neck down 6.5x47 brass and shoot. This particular rifle shoots well under a half inch and has a mild kick. That's it in the middle next to a 6.5x47L and a 6X47L.View attachment 1082599 View attachment 1082600 View attachment 1082601
Sorry for the late reply, I’m just seeing this. I wanted to take a Remington action and see how far it could be taken. I’ll admit your better off buying one of the new customs and I’ve done that many times with, defiance, Bighorns and others. So I had an older Remington laying around and bought a PT&G bolt. I sent it off to bolt flutter who fluted the bolt and shroud. Then I sent the parts to Alex Wheeler along with a 25x47l reamer I had bought here off the classifieds, it was set up for BIB 110s which is the bullet I wanted to use. Alex trued the action and timed the bolt, he did more but I don’t remember the details but I will say that action is a pleasure. I used a Brux number 3, 1 in 10 twist, cerakoted it Graphite black, HS stock, Timney Calvin Elite, topped the rifle with a 1-6 accupower I had laying around with NF rings. I shoot a mild load of 42 grains of H4350 that’s pushing the BiB 110 at just under 2800. It’s easy to load for too. PM if you want more details. It one project that if I did it again I wouldn’t change anything, I’m pleased with it.That looks great. Would you tell us more about your rifle?
Are you happy w the 9 twist? what bullets does it shoot the best?Just built a 25x47L. I haven't shot any 100 gr bullets yet, but have gotten 3180 with a 115 Berger and RE-16. I picked a load at 3120 and did a seating depth test. The best 3 shot group was .167 at 200 yards.
I would think that a reasonable velocity expectation out of a 100 grain bullet from a 25x47L would be around 3300 fps.
In my 25 Norma Dasher, I got the 100 gr SMK to a little over 3200 fps with H 4895.
OT
Beruisis Be sure to check the length of the Barnes bullet and make sure you get enough twist. I am shooting a 9 twist and in the past had slightly open groups shooting the longer bullets in a 10 twist.
great test!!Not scientifically measured - used RL-15, which was handy, and struck 'em off level full - here are some fired case capacities for your perusal:
1) 250/3000 Sav. = 42.4 Gr.
2) 25x47 Lapua = 43.6 Gr.
3)30x47 HBR (Lapua cloned this case, and necked it down to 6.5) = 44.5 Gr.
4) 25 LongNecker (250/3000 Ack. Imp. with 6mm re. length neck) = 46.7 Gr.
5) 257 Roberts Ackley Imp. 40 Deg. - 58.4 GR.
6) just for the hell of it- 6.5x284 = 61.4 Gr.
7) 257IdiotMag (25/300WSM) 71.1 Gr.
8) 257 Weatherby Mag. = 76.3 Gr.
Don't have 25/06, or, 25/06 Ack. Imp, both of which are great too!Nor, do I have a 25/300 Re. Ultra Mag, which would be really BIG!
Both the 25x47 and 250/3000- Ack. Imp. produce extreme precision - good enough to win/place/show in NBRSA Hunter Class and VfS tournaments.
In my old age, I have reverted to my youthful wants - for hunting, more horsepower than required! My all-time favorite, though, remains the 257 Ac. Imp.For the polymer tipped 100 Gr., and the longer/heavier (110-115 Gr.) HPBT type bullets, though a traditional 1:10" probably will not disappoint, I strongly recommend you opt for a 1:9" twist barrel - that'll dot the I's and cross the T's!
Merry Christmas!RG
Years back, I had a 25-06 with a 10 twist. It shot 100 grain bullets just fine but bullets in the 110 to 120 grain range just wouldn't hold together like the 100's did. I put 9 twist barrels on the 25 Norma Dasher and 25x27L. The slightly heavier bullets came to life. Are you happy w the 9 twist? what bullets does it shoot the best?
which would you build again, 25 N Dasher or 25x47. Or other.Years back, I had a 25-06 with a 10 twist. Here is my best ever group with a 110 BIB. 5 shots @ 400 yards
Most likely the 25x47L because of the increased boiler room and a larger selection of brass. The 25 N Dasher has only 1 case available. The x47 has Lapua plus it is easily made from Peterson and other 6 XC brass.which would you build again, 25 N Dasher or 25x47. Or other.
