Which .223 Barrel?

Have found 2 Bartlein barrels in stock in the length & twist that I'm looking for, but two different contours. One is the #13 Rem Varmint/Sendaro that weighs 5# in 31" length and the other is the #9 Heavy Varmint, which weighs 7.5# in the 31" length (both finish to 30"). I'm not worried about going over weight with my M700 action and stock, but am wondering if there is any advantage to the #9 HV barrel contour over the lighter #13 Rem V/S barrel? Is there going to be anything that shows up on paper at 600 or 1000yd?
Thanks.

Less recoil with the heavier barrel,if you are laying prone and not dragging it around I think the heavy one would be better, but hey they are both Bartline's they are going to shoot good.

What does your stock and scope weigh?

I can make weight (barely) with a Heavy Varmint a 4lb stock NF Titanium rings, aluminum rail, aluminum bolt shroud and a NF Comp Scope. In fact I've learned that a Bix'nAndy is an oz lighter than a Jewell. :D If you aren't running a light scope you will find yourself over weight with the Heavy Varmint. If you don't have a NF yet, and you get the heavy barrel you will be limited to running a Comp and won't make weight with an NXS or a BR if you find one, they are both at least 8 oz or more heavier than a NF Comp, and the Vortex Golden Eagle is about 3 or 4 oz heavier than the comp.

At this point I'd get the #5

Unless there is some reason to choose differently, such as the contour being too large for the stock channel, or similar, I would generally go with the heaviest contour possible that would allow me to make weight with at least a couple ounces to spare.

Your concerns got me to go weigh everything. I use a smaller/lighter scope (Edit: Leupold VX-3i side focus) and all the parts come in at 16#8oz, so have ~10oz to play with. I did not weigh the foam cheek-piece, but likely 3-4oz, at most. Weighed with the all-steel XPro trigger. Am guessing the Rifle Basix trigger will be an oz or two lighter.

What did your Vx-III weigh? A NF NXS or BR weighs close to 35 or 36 oz, the NF Comp weighs about 25oz, I believe the Vortex is 28oz.

If you want to end up with one of those you should plan for it, the barrel will probably last you 4000 rounds or more, so figure two or more yrs depending on your shooting schedule.

With Tally QD rings the Vx-3i side focus weighs just less than 24oz. As the rifle is not yet assembled am thinking it will loose a few oz when the barrel is threaded and chambered and the muzzle is crowned.

Thanks, but too late. The heavy varmint is "in the mail".
This is strictly an F-Class F/TR rifle. Am fortunate to have three 600yd matches & one 1000yd match within a 2.5hr drive. Nearest is 20 minutes. Want all the weight I can get as my 'old' shoulder doesn't like recoil.
