Where to start w/powder, 6 x 47 Lapua?

My new 6 x 47 is done and I need to start loading some ammo. A 29", 1-8" HART, DEFIANCE action, etc. I'm assuming with the slightly smaller bore vs the 6.5 I can go with slower powder?

With 105's and 107's where should I start with powder? I'm using H-4350 with my 6.5 x 47 and 130 VLD's but it's been tough to locate.
I do have an 8# jug of both Varget and RE-17.

Thank You in advance.

Where should I start with H-4350 and 105's or 107's?

Only data I have seen for the 6 x 47 L is the Berger manual and they don't show H-4350 at all with the heavier slugs.

Appreciate the input Gentleman.

Start at about 37ish grains of H4350. I have shot both 38.5 grains and 40.5 grains with great accuracy. This was with 105 Vlds

I built 2 rifles back when brass became available. A Krieger LV and a Broughton RV, both I had on hand, both 8 twist and both cut to 26" and chambers close enough to switch fired brass in. Max of 40.5gr of H4350 in the Krieger with 107SMK's was 3140fps. The Broughton would take 40gr as max with 3060fps.

Twin brother picked the Krieger because of it being faster, more accurate and having other Kriegers and is now shooting 105 VLD's and H4350. Haven't visited with him to see if he has any chrono data.

I have the Broughton but just always grab my XC with Rock @ 26", 8 twist. Velocity around 3000ish with 107SMK and better accuracy. I switched to 40gr of RL17 and gained 120fps with 450's and 107's. Accuracy is about identical with 40gr of either!

In fact I shoot 40gr of H4350 and Rl17 with 123's in my 6.5x47. So same charge weight of either powder have near identical accuracy but RL17 is 100fps+ faster in either.

Started with 38.0 gns H4350 with 105 VLD's and 0.010" ON the lands the first day of load developement. Ended load developement the same day with 2- sub 1 1/2" groups at 600 yards prone. CCI BR4 primers finished out the tail end of the components list. 3061 fps velocity.

With a 105 grain Berger Target or Amax, I am using 38 grains of RL-17. That is a conservative load as my rifle still has a large firing pin. Velocity averages 3000 FPS with a 26" barrel.

39 Gr H4350 with the 108 berger.

I also ran the 105 VLD's over 40 Gr of same.

The 108's shot better.

I started at 37, went up by 1/2's to 44 gr. That was the very definate END in my tube (1-8 Kreiger)...way hot with blown primer.

subscribed.....

I have a 28" barrel on the way.

I have a little Varget (which im working away from due to availability)

But have IMR 4350, 4451, and 4166. I was thinking the 4350 or the 4451.

I am planning on shooting Berger 105's. I have the Hybrids and hunting VLD's on the way.

I think Varget it too fast for the overbore 6s. I've not bothered to try it in my 6SLR, I went straight to H1000. The 4350 should do you good, never shot the 4451. I know one guy with a 6x47L here and I think he has gotten good results with 7828 (magic I think he called it)

I'm going to try the 4451 when the barrel gets here. Burn speeds are close to 4350 and supposed to be temperature insensitive. I'll try the 4350 also.

H4350 is probably the go to powder, but you may also be surprised by h4831sc. Just give it a try. Also..the hotter the primer the better.

I was running 38.0 IMR4350 CCI Small Mag Primers and 108 Bergers jumped .049 may sound odd because of the jump but man my rifle liked it. It was a Remage setup 28 inch 1-8 twist barrel Sir. No pressure signs or heavy bolt lift to speak of Sir. I have heard H4350 is extremely good so I hear.

Very Respectfully

I started on 38gr of h4350 , imr4350 and rl17 and worked up .

Settled on 41gr of both the imr4350 and h4350 @ around 3140fps rem7.5 primer and 105amax.
Shot through a Krieger 1:8 twist @26" fitted with ASE UTRA SL5 moderator.

Best load with rl17 was 39.9gr @ around 3130fps cci450 primer and 105amax.

All loads jumped 10 thou...ish, and imr4350 is easier to clean .

Finally got out yesterday to shoot the 6x47 and put it's first rds down the barrel.

It was so windy (and I forgot some small bags or weights for the tripods) My Oehler crono was NOT going to stay up.

So I simply bore sighted and sent 5 rds downrange. Even used the atlas bipod up front.
1st rd got me on paper. I made an adjustment and put the next 4 into .4"

I loaded H-4350 and 105 SMK's for sight in and some barrel break in. I'm on the paper now and should get out on Sat or Sunday to get some crono work and start gathering some data.

I started with IMR 4350, looks so good, that I doubt I'll try much else (have 10lbs). My friend has switched to 4451 from IMR 4350. He says accuracy is the same (great) hoping to prolong the tubes. I will try some VV n160 because I can't stop wondering how green the grass might be.

FYI IMR 4350 starts to show pressure just as the powder crunches. In my rifle that's at 41gr just 1gr over my load.

Good to hear! Can't wait till my barrel gets here

I have had good luck with 105 amaxs and varget... I am sure 4350 would do well to but I was more than happy enough I ended my search without trying anything else.

Shot a pair of quick groups a few days ago....100° + and breezy.

39.2 H-4350, CCI450, 107 SMK touching the lands.... 2981 avg, ES 20 fps

39.5 " " .. 3002 fps AVG, with 23 ES

Accuracy seems to be there....going to go a bit higher with powder charge, then fiddle with seating depth.
As well as switching to Berger VLD's.

Glad to finally have some starting velocity figures anyway.
