Where to go from here? 308 Win with Berger 168 gr Hybrid

Oh man not a double dog dare!
Hell why not? But if I hurt my shoulder again I’m goin need help packin deer out da bush.
I know you see what I'm looking at.
Zero vertical dispersion, looks to be about a 1" horizontal spread between shots 4&5.
Might not need to adjust seating depth.

Now for the deer in bushes....
I'm betting if you tell your daughter you need to drag a deer, your son in law will get the task done.
FWIW, after hide is off follow muscle line into the bone with your knife.
Put all the protein in your pack and leave the carcass behind. Pack smart not hard.

I hate nasty Lawyer’s especially when they work for my ex wife.

here’s a super simple 308 ladder test with 155 gr just .002 off the lands. The node is 44.2
So I can start seat testing at 44. and work up Or 44.2 and let er eat.
I colored some Bullets at different depths took it to 550 and let er eat.
1 1/2 vertical at 550 will do just fine in a hunting rig. I’m done..

Luckily for me the process was about as efficient and sensible as can be. If anything it went too quickly. C'est la vie.

For hunting I only need grab a box of RWS 165gr DK, zero and be done for anything out to 300 yards. Given the round count required it's cheaper than any load development. I'm just having fun for target and learning before I tackle my custom build 6mm CR.

But I honestly don't get the 'single shot ladder looking for a flat spot in vertical and settling there' technique. Humour me by looking at the target in post 55 again. There's 44.4 gr, 44.5gr and 44.6 gr with same seating depth. They have the same relative aim point so just imagine them side by side. Now use a random number generator (there are plenty online) to select one shot from each of the groups. Depending on your random shot selector results you could have a 3-shot target with anything from zero to an inch of vertical. Now, looking at your target, are your shots 4 and 5 samples of truly flat vertical or merely just happenstance? In a nutshell, to draw conclusions from such a target you have to believe that further rounds of the same load would go in exactly the same hole.

So I triple dare you to put that same target up and shoot 44.2, 44.3 and 44.4 again.

As for dragging deer, in NZ we turn the carcass into a backpack... Job done.

We do have a mule and a Jeep, the son in law idea is really good

I got busy prior to Christmas and through the holidays and never had the chance to post the results of my last trip to the range. I loaded 4 rounds each of 45.1, 45.3, 45.5, 45.7 and 45.9 gr of Varget, all at a CBTO of 2.276 (my estimate of 'touch'). I shot these on Nov 23rd. Target attached.

45.5 looks really interesting. Velocity ES collapsed to 6 fps. I've never recorded anything like that before with this rifle. Next to no vertical and just one shot (pulled?) left. On either side, powder loads produced markedly wider vel ES and groups.

I've loaded another 7 rounds at 45.5gr/CBTO 2.276 and another 7 at CBTO of 2.273 (same powder charge) just to see if the above was luck.
