where to buy pin gages

Where are you guys buying the pin gages at ?
I see them on eBay for around $3.00, but they want to charge 4 or 5 dollars to ship each one, and I want to get 8 or 10 different pins.
Are you asking the seller if they can combine shipping ??
are you buying them from a different vender ?

I’d buy direct from someone like Vermont gage. McMaster Carr and measuring tool sellers may be a good option too. I bought a few from McMaster Carr once although they are pricy.

If you go the Amazon or eBay route, I’d definitely ask the seller for total shipping fees. There’s no reason to pay multiple shipping fees.

Yes, I checked directly at McMaster and MSC , yes they are like double the price.
So, I will directly contact an eBay seller and see what I can get.

Edit: I forgot about these guys. They make an actual gage pin holder for presses too and Ken is top notch to deal with and sells pins cheap and shipping is really fair.

I can’t explain why but all gage pin manufactured gouge on shipping.

I use gage shop.com but they have a flat $20 shipping fee and a minimum of $20 purchase. That gets you 6 of the ZZ pins for about $41.

I’ve also ordered custom carbide gage pins from another company and they charge almost $20 to ship two pins.

It’s ridiculous.

It might a bit more of the handling cost than the shipping. These sellers mostly face commercial customers who buy larger and more expensive stuff. Consider what CE products did to mange this. I’m happy when an industrial manufacturer or distributor sells direct to an individual because their cost structures simply can’t handle lots of customer facing time for a $30 sale.

Many years ago when I first had a need for "a" pin gage, I decided to buy the set (0.250" - 0.500"). Cost me at the time I think just under $75 shipped. Current price is just over $100 free shipping. I use them frequently for a wide variety of tasks. Later I added the smaller set as well. If it is anything like bushings for a die, I always need just one more.

Having danced this dance a few times for a couple of different shops, trying to be frugal with budgets, you will be better served by buying a kit or set of pins especially when you get free shipping included. I have 3 different sets in my current shop due to the variety of projects I am involved in. And I don't have to look for that ONE pin which I need right now. It's in the set in a box with the size labeled for each pin. It's a real time saver in the long run. Buy a set and don't look back!

I got 2 sets off of eBay. But they must be way off because for years I keep getting .062 as the size of a blue box 6BR flash hole and Sinclair and Accurate Shooter keep saying it's .059 despite being told different.

Are you people finding pin gauges better than just using a mandrel with the floating Sinclair holder?

I wanted to trial gage pins, my 22 cal collet would work with .200-224. I got 2 0.202- and 2 0.222- from Amazon 2.85 each free shipping(prime). My smith is putting a taper on each for me. I am going to try these on Rem 223,22-250,20p and 204 ruger.

This winter I ordered several from McMaster Carr. I got several minus Z gages (0 to .0001" tolerance) and a couple X tolerance metric that hit the dimension I wanted. Some were not in stock, so every time they shipped, I got hit with ~$10 shipping.

Initially that's where I started. Then I bought a few others from Amazon. Eventually I broke down and bought the large (0.251-0.500") and small (0.061-0.250") sets, and for subsequent calibers of interest I just fill in the 'gaps' with half-thou pins as needed.
