AnD got back to my email inquiry and said that a lawsuit, wayfair vs south dakota, resulted in them not shipping to California. They still ship to South Dakota. They said it is too hard for them to deal with sales tax to CA. Other states, not so much. So if they are pissed at California, then by not selling here, CA gets no sales tax from them. I guess they at least are accomplishing their mission.

That decision had to do with allowing any state to demand that vendors in other locales collect and turn in sales tax for any goods they ship into that state, even if they have no nexus in said state. Several states have started demanding vendors start ding that, but many have not so far. California was very aggressive in that respect and immediately started asking everybody collect CA state tax for stuff shipped to California.

The smaller vendors are usually not required to do that, yet, but I would guess California is special and also AnD Engineering is in that state. Larger outfits are already collecting state taxes, and they're geared up to do that, but I can see where a small Ontario company took the easy way out and said "no shipping to California." I fail to see how the CA government could touch them, but AnD is in CA.
