Where is neck sizing taught

I always wonder where the topic of neck sizing always keeps popping up. The beginning of the hornaday manual discusses it in depth and advocates its benefits. Maybe this is why we keep hearing about it so much. I don't recall it being pushed as a good way to do business in the lyman 50th that I finished reading the front matter today. Should hornaday update their manual to at least not advocating for this process???

Typo corrected.

Not sure where it started but it was popular with benchrest guys a long time ago. These days we know that there are very few good reasons to do it. Not sure why Hornady would recommend it. It’s an advanced practice at best, and shouldn't be in any intoductory loading manual.

This subject has been beat to death...you must be bored or stirring the pot. Get out and shoot more.

Sometimes I log on here a feel like a complete newcomer to the sport, like I was reading this for the first time.
Today is one of those days.

What the heck is 8t and why is it not good business?

1:8 twist barrel

Oh I understand 8t is short hand for 8-twist (and I think Texas10 does as well), but look in the context of the OP.

And I’ll just keep neck sizing like the dinosaur that I am.
Tommie, I don't think anybody is saying it can't work, just that it isn't good for beginners, and it may not deliver BETTER results than careful use of an FL die.

I have my father in laws 6mm REM that he had built in 1965 on a 40XB action. When he shot the original barrel out he sent it to Hart and had it rebarreled with a 26" stainless heavy barrell. In those days it seems RCBS was king. He sent fired cases and had a neck only sizing die made for that chamber. I have the die and it actually has my FIL's initials stamped on it from the factory. I neck size only with it until chambering/bolt lift get sticky (about 3 loadings) and then use a Redding body die to resize the body and bump the shoulder then size the neck. It's working well for me and neck tension is very consistant. What's your guys thoughts on this ??

You'd think a custom NS die would keep the brass in check over its entire length....what am I missing ?
Or was this die reamed for the previous chamber/barrel ?
Have you tried bumping the shoulder with it ?
