Where has all the powder gone?

We use Re-26 for several cartridges so we go through a ton of it on a monthly basis. I was fortunate enough to find a private party who had several 8 lb. jugs but it was a 13 hour round trip drive... That lasted a little while but again I was lucky to find another private party with several jugs he was glad to sell but again it was nearly another 13 hour drive to fetch it. Different state and nice countryside but I thinks that's enough driving for a while!

These shortages are creating a repetitious cycle of in-stock/out-of-stock by encouraging over buying to prevent running out of certain products. Both the bullet makers and the powder makers have been party to aiding in this cycle but it is the reloaders who are the biggest contributors fueled by the fear of running out of their favorite components. Brass has become a third component to this party. Norma and Norma/Nosler have been extremely far behind in the supply chain leaving many of us to source other manufacturers but in smaller quantities, if it can be found at all. We are indeed fortunate to have the new level of brass suppliers onboard but even with them the supplies still dry up quickly.

Finding Alliant powders are like finding a needle in a haystack. RL26 in the 8lb cans is impossible. and even 1lb cans is hard to get. Rl 17 my personal favorite and H 4350 are all getting scarce. Whats the deal.
Powder Valley has 16,17 and 4350 in stock ??????

I deal with a local shop here. When I need something I give him a call and if he does not have it he will order it for me. Usually get it about as fast as if I ordered it on line. The advantage is that you always talk to the owner and you get specialized and friendly service.

And that's well and good for both of you. Supporting the LGS is terrific.:) But if there is none in the pipeline and the distributors are out, both you and he sit and twiddle your thumbs along with the rest of us. That's the rub.

Well, it seems as though it is available from many of the on sellers. Powder Valley seems to have a lot of it.

Powder Valley has Rl17 in one pound and five pound containers. No luck with Rl26. Brownells has RL17 plus free shipping and one cent hasmat fees today.

This is the comment I was working from:

Re-26? No, no one has it in stock at this point. I have 20- 8lb jugs on reserve from several suppliers if and when it gets delivered this year sometime. We've waited for 3 other powders so far this year alone along with several thousand rounds of brass from Norma and Nosler. Norma just delivered one pallet last week which we ordered the first week of January. Now there may be some out-of-the-way tiny LGS with a couple of pounds on the shelf but I don't have the time or the resources to check every small shop in America just to locate a couple of pounds. :(;)

Our local shop was charging $27 # last time we went there. Looks like it's on the rise.
